What if Witten is just a JAG, but Romo just throws the ball to him too much?

It is kind of hard to keep up with. Now we are talking about TO being unjustly persecuted by the haters, when all he wanted to do was win. He was such a team player that even arena league teams thought he was too good for them and cut him.

Romo ruined him by drawing up plays in the sand with Witten.

The safer throw was definitely to Beasley. Given the leverage of the DB in addition to Beasley's quickness, that's a simple pitch and catch once Beasley makes his break. Once Weddle turns to follow Witten, the short middle was clearly the void in the defense. Romo the vast majority of the time is good at reading defenses, so he probably knew he had Beasley in a good spot if he wanted him. I think he simply chose to hit Witten down the seam. Probably should have looked elsewhere given the coverage but Witten still dropped a catchable pass.

The last part of your post is really all that matters.

For the love of God, people.. stop talking about the throw.

Good throw, bad throw, wrong throw, right throw, rainbow throw, care bear throw..

The throw that was made hit the receiver in the chest!

This thread should be about how our All Pro TE dropped a pass that hit him in the numbers.

Without getting deep into it, Win Probability Added measures an individual player's impact on the outcome of a game. JAG's don't lead the NFL in WPA like Witten has done -- twice at his position.

That is sad. I wonder if there is anyone else in the league with that little yds per target with 20% of their team's targets.

Remember! He is a blocker also, not just a pass catcher. Just because he does not get the yac that makes him look slow is because he does two things on the team. So, that is a useless stat....

A useless stat? This stat is the reason the Witten should be used in short yardage situations (3rd and 5 or less). This stat is why there's no explosion in this offense. Its kinda like having Moose Johnston as your leading receiver.

I would like to point out that this poster and I constantly disagree, yet we are reporting the same thing. That should tell you the allegations were there.

Agree. And unfortunately it rubbed off on a few players and we had no choice but to cut them later. I don't see how anyone can defend TO after his issues in San Fran, Philly and then Dallas, It's just not a mere coincidence. We made a lot of excuses around here and blamed everyone else when we signed him but the real TO showed up. No one gets rid of such a supremely talented player and home run threat for no reason. He was unstoppable so that should tell you how bad things had gotten behind the scenes.

Other TEs don't block?

I think it's a combination of a few things... Speed no longer there and Witten as more of a safety valve for Romo... Romo may be targeting him, but not as a primary target.

The ball should've been caught by Witten...hit him right in the chest on a very good throw by Romo. Targets in the game were Witten 10, Dez 9, Williams 8. Not a huge difference there either.

Like I said, Dez is 25th in the league among WR in percentage of his team's targets, and that's ridiculous. But there's your problem. Dez isn't getting enough targets.

With Witten's targets looking like this:
Witten 21 of 33 192 yd 2td 0int 99.6
I don't have a lot to complain about the 22%, which is what he had last year. The 99.6 rating and the 7.03 ANYA on Witten's targets are winning numbers, and those are stats that actually correlate to winning, unlike yards per target. That is, if winning means anything.

Also, it's important to note that the low yards per target is not limited to Witten anyway. Austin and Murray have combined for 29% of the team's targets. Their combined ypt is 5.84, and they have no TD. Should they have been targeted more than Witten, who has 2 TD? Williams has averaged 8.7 ypt, and is responsible for two red zone turnovers. Should he be targeted more often? Harris is hurt. Who else is there? Brings me back to 88.

2013 (4 games)
Dez 24% (7.8)
Witten 22% (5.81)
Murray 16% (5.75)
Austin 13% (5.95)

So, in Romo's progressions.... which 1 of the 4 is Beasely? 1st? 2nd? 3rd? 4th?

Were you in the huddle? Did you call the play? Where you on the field reading the checks?

When Beasely broke open, Romo had already released the ball! It was gone!

Dude - if you hate so much, do yourself a favor and go watch CNN or the main stream media. But, stop cherry picking things to be negative about regarding the Cowboys. It gets real old.

It was the correct read. Witten was open. Unfortunately the pass was underthrown. Still, the ball hit Witten in the chest and shoulda been caught.
