Romo using Flacco's big contract as leverage

I don't understand why people say "Brady won this" or "Manning won that" as if the QB is the only player on the field!!

Someone mentioned Staubach made ordinary men great, but that's simply not true at all! He played with so many HOF-ers or all time greats. So did Aikman!

QB does not, nor has he ever, won a single game. Someone had to make plays for them like Branch did for his QB or the Bears D did for McMahon.

It's frustrating to see our QB, get more crap from our "fans" than they they give to other teams players, like Vick or Manning. Can they see anything beyond the outcome of a game? Like beating a dead horse on this subject!

Exactly.

The team could free up almost $10 million dollars by giving Romo a new contract, that money then could be used to upgrade other positions. To let Romo play under his current cap number of $17 million would just be dumb.

Seriously, you either give him a new deal and free up cap to improve other areas or you cut bait on the guy.

Has there ever been a QB in his 30s, with one playoff win, that has gotten paid comparably to what Romo is getting ready to bank?

It is ridiculous. Instead of having a young guy developed and ready to take over, the team has to fork out a metric crap ton of cash for an aging, choking loser that has never gotten the job done.

Yes, because tying up 15-20% of your cap to an aging loser who has ONE playoff victory is smart football.

Great article and true. Trade the bum and get a first. Start Orton and draft a QB either this or next year. Why does Jerry coddle this guy?

Because he's made chicken salad out of chicken crap the past few years. Look at the statistics that show the strongest correlation to winning. Then see where The Cowboys have ranked in the stats that Romo has an influence on. Then see where The Cowboys have ranked in the stats that Romo does not have an influence on.

Way too logical. Just stop it.

when your wife make a lot more than you do it gives you a little flexibility. AND its not like he has not made plenty of green before.

When people believe that fake low salary years at the end of your deal represent actual salaries that Brady is going to play under it helps too

Im going to say this again. do not give Romo a new contract with all this money. he is not worth it. it will kill this team for years if jerry makes yet another stupid move. let him play out this year and move on.Cowboys are not going to win anything with him.

The rest of Romo's critics should take your position. If you know what I mean.

I'll do some work for them:
The Baltimore Ravens had a Defensive Passer Rating of 72.4 in the 2012 postseason.
Giants 83.1 in 2011.
Packers 67.8 in 2010.
Saints 78.5 in 2009.

Our defensive passer rating the past 3 seasons is a 90.0. We are the only team in the NFL to rank in the bottom ten in that statistic for three years straight.

The only argument against Romo that holds any water is that he makes some killer mistakes. Of course, in nearly every situation, he's having to play risky football because we are playing from behind or running for his life. So that might have something to do with it.

Eventhough JJ did not pay much for Tony in the beginning and he probably did save some money he gained NOTHING, zero....Romo has no post season wins, no superbowls nothing.....Romo had no huge games in college he is not pedigreed he is who we thought he was....an undrafted quarterback who has a mediocre football career and now he is going to rake in the millions....good post

Romo has 1 postseason win. So there.

I sense your frustration and your siniscm.

I wish that Jerra, before he pays Romo all them millions, is to consider this:
What would Landry and Lombardini think of paying 10s of millions of dollars to a QB in his 30s who continually chokes and has only 1 playoff win?

Discuss.

Can't wait until Romo leaves and we're stuck looking for our next quarterback for the next 5-7 years ... all your haters will be eating your words and then you'll truly understand how important and vital Romo was to this team.

I thought he had an influence on everything. That's what I keep hearing and anyway. He's the sole reason we've been average. He affects the defense, the special teams, the drafting, who we take in FA, who gets hired as the assistant clubhouse attendant, and why traffic around the stadium sucks. Oh, the ice storm and faulty additional SB seating were his doing, too.

You're saying this isn't so? Man, this has been a rough day.

Who cares if he's made chicken salad when it takes filet mignon to win a super bowl? He has nice stats overall and I like him but its not unreasonable for someone to have the opinion that he can't and won't get it done. He has made the mistakes and had the poor performances at some key spots that gives fans every right to think that way. They may end up being wrong but Romo's past tells me they are probably right. You see, some fans want to win a super bowl and others seem satisfied with a QB that puts up good stats on the way to a 8-8 record and a disappointing loss to end the season.

Or they could draft OL and QBs with first round talent instead if trying to get lucky
