I wouldn't pay Romo what will likely be a ridiculous demand from his agent. Give him a reasonable 3 year contract, and then say hello to Romo's future replacement..

I'm sold. 6'6 245 lb, great arm and a computer for a football mind. I read John Garrett recruited him to UVA so you know Jason has heard of him. Perfect late round pick and I'm not worried about a college kid getting caught with alcohol.

The question about Tony's contract is no longer talent but age. QBs just don't suddenly start winning Super Bowls in their mid-30s. So you're basically paying him five more years to get maybe an extra year, maybe, of championship window.

Might as well add some BUI's to this team, we don't have enough DUI's as-is

If Tony Romo wins, we'll never hear from most of the posters in this thread ever again..

I think I have a better chance of winning the lottery. I'm not a Romo hater but I don't believe he will ever win anything of significance and it's not all his fault for that. I'm not a fan that blames everything on Romo. As with all QBs, he gets too much of the blame for his failures and not enough credit for his successes. Team fails year after year, it'll be all his fault.

If Jerry lets Romo walk, half the stadium will be empty.

I will pay $10 for a hot dog and $12 for a beer to watch Romo run around every down and create something out of nothing.

I aint paying that to watch some vet retread or some rookie suck it up.

Jerry knows that a good chunk of the fan base feels the same way. If he gets rid of Romo, good luck selling tickets, parking permits, hot dogs, beer, t-shirts, ect.....

People don't come to cowboys stadium to watch one player, this isn't the nba.

Romo is the most exciting player in Cowboy history. He is different than Aikman,Roger, Merideth,Craig Morton and all of the no names but more exciting than any of them. He was "Johnny Football" before Johnny Football existed. If he ever wins he will be legendary and HOF. We are lucky to have him to entertain us. He may never win because of his supporting cast and NFL rules to discourage dynastys but he is a great and dedicated football player and it is a shame he takes so much criticism. He also handles the crticism in a world class manner. Most of us will "rue" the day he is gone and the haters probably will also if they after they have had time to reflect on his excellence..

Let's see how Romo finishes his career before we start comparing him to two Super Bowl-winning QBs, HOF QBs by the way.

Using the SB wins as the metric for QB quality is pretty asinine yet typical of Dallas fans. Demonstrates the issue of expectations of QBs.

If we think we have any chance at all to contend this year, then we have to have Romo. If we do keep him at his current salary, it really limits us being able to bring any help other than the draft.

It does make the

Can we get an upgrade at RG, S, RB, T and LB in the draft? I'd say we can get two quality starters but that is going to leave us short in a couple other spots.

It's a tough choice to make....give Romo one year with what we have, a new defensive scheme and a couple of rookies.

Yep he's got all the intangibles. His size and big arm are impressive. I posted about this in draft zone, check out these quotes from an article I found on him:

-"From what I can tell, outside of two unfortunate incidents with alcohol and some self admitted marijuana usage in the past, he seems like your average college kid — only this kid has an NFL arm and high-speed computer processor for a mind when it comes to making decisions from the pocket."

-"A source close to and with experience coaching Lalich described the signal caller as a “football savant”, going on to call him a 'real life Will Hunting' when it came to football."

-"The same source cited how the fact that Ryan Nassib, the current quarterback prospect from Syracuse, is being considered by many as potential 2nd or 3rd round pick is laughable when you compare his skill-set to that of Lalich. He went on to speculate that Lalich will be one of the most sought after undrafted free agents should he get passed over for seven rounds."

-"It is also important to point out that Dallas Cowboy Head Coach Jason Garrett’s brother John was one of the primary recruiters of Lalich to Virginia. This tells me that Peter Lilich will be very much on the radar of both the Dallas Cowboys and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where John Garrett is now on Greg Schiano’s staff."

-"As I said before, after watching literally hours of NFL prospects throw the ball, not one of them is a better pure passer and for that matter, decision maker than Peter Lalich. Let’s just hope the foolish decisions of a 20 year old kid don’t end up being what derails what could very well be a terrific NFL career."

This kid could be a steal.

People keep saying this, but I don't understand why the two are comparable. It's not like Flacco signed for a ton less guaranteed -- Flacco got $52 mil and Brady got $60 mil. Flacco's ongoing base salary and cap hit, however, are much, much higher than Brady's. The two contracts don't seem comparable whatsoever.

They are not as far as cap hits go. Flacco's salary will cause greater cap problems. Brady's is cap friendly as long as he's playing.

That's what makes Brady's deal smart, for him and likely for the team. Brady isn't losing out because of the guaranteed money. The Pats only lose out if something happens to Brady, because the money's guaranteed.

Flacco will never see all the money in his contract, but it will end up being more than Brady's in guaranteed money as long as his career lasts a few years. That's because it will be restructured in a few years with some of the base salary being shifted to bonus money.

He was pretty enthusiastic wasn't he.

Loved watching Emmitt and Aikman!

Just a reminder about those ints though--Aikman through picks at a higher rate than Romo. 3% vs 2.8%
Roger, gosh bless him, threw picks at a far higher rate than both.

That is true, but tony is also playing in a passing friendly league, if the rules were set up the way they are now back then, those guys numbers would be even better.

If I were Romo, I'd lobby for Dallas to get a solid Oline in front of him first.

Troy ranked in the top five in Passing TD % just once in his career to Romo's 4 times. Troy ranked in the top 5 in Pass Interception % 3 times, and Romo has done so 2 times. So their numbers may have been better in this era, but that certainly doesn't show that they'd be better than Romo's.
