Romo: Vikings would be dangerous with Favre
July 7th, 2009 – 10:55 PM by Judd Zulgad
HERE IS THE LINK, DON'T KILL THE MESSAGER>>>>http://blogs.startribune.com/vikingsblog/?p=3020

As we wait for Brett Favre to officially tell the world that he is going to play for the Vikings, it seems that someone new each day gives their opinion on the quarterback playing in Minnesota. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was the latest to weigh in on this subject Tuesday as he returned home to Burlington, Wis., to host his football camp.

“For him, he loves the game of football. He enjoys playing it,” Romo told reporters, according to a story on the Green Bay- based WBAY-TV website. “If you’re good enough to do it, and obviously he is, otherwise there wouldn’t be teams going after him.”

Added Romo of the Vikings getting Favre: “They have tapes so they’re going to watch. They obviously think he did something right last year. They’ll be a very dangerous team if they get him, definitely.”

Vikings are an NFC contender with him.

People think he's washed up, but you put him with that running game and that defense, (the suspensions to the Williams' will hurt though) and you have a very solid team.

The more I think about it, the more I see a bunch of dogfightds in the NFC this year. In the East, North and South there are three legit playoff contenders in each division.

10-6 may not make it this year, depending on tiebreakers.
Our games vs Atlanta, Carolina and Green Bay, in addition to our division games will be critical IMO.

He should be more concerned with the Cowboys being more dangerous with him.

Same thing every yr for the Vikes. "They are a contender!!!"..."They got Peterson!!!!"

Honestly I really HOPE they sign Favre. He'll be horrendous and they wont bench him no matter how bad he plays. He'll throw 25+ picks.

With all of Favre's picks and Peterson's fumbles, the Vikes will be a massive failure.

I agree however I still think it is a questionable move by the Vikes and I'm not sure how well viking players will take to a player coming in at the last moment taking over the QB position.

After the QB play up there the last few years I can't imagine them hating it.

You would be surprised at the backing the vike players have for Jackson. Thing about Farve it would be no more than a 1 year deal then an off season of will he play or not? Not to mention the Vikes invested in Rosenfeld as well this off season. I just don't see as much upside to Brett coming in for a season. Vike in my view should be looking at long term not short term but that is just my opinion.

My observations. Agree or disagree where you want.

1. Tavaris Jackson has all the tools needed to be a great QB in the NFL, but need to learn when to throw a touch pass and when to throw a laser. As of right now, he throws absolute rocket-lasers on seemingly every play.

2. Brett Favre is DONE. Vikings fans want him SO badly but you don't get to be the league's all-time interception leader by not throwing bunches of them.

That is all.

PS - probably a lot of the same people that screamed "CHAMPIONSHIP!!!" when we acquired TO in 06.

I think Jackson showed some improvements last year and I think he can improve even more how much who knows. As for Brett I think he can still play but with a shoulder injury that he has not had surgery on still lingering out there it is a risk. Had the Vike went out and drafted a top ranked QB then bringing in Favre would made more sense.

I don't understand why everybody thinks Farve is going to be the savior of the Vikes? It's a possibility with the weapons already on board, but history shows he unravels without the proper coaching restraint of his run and gun style. He does throw lots of pics and he isnt' getting any younger. Furthermore, hasn't he always played terrible in domes? Especially in Minnesota.

I think it depends a lot on Favre's attitude.

If he comes in there like a prima donna and tries to big time everyone, then they probably won't like it. If he comes in and actually tries to be a member of the team, and they win, I'm sure the players will be OK with it.

The Vikes are in win now mode, so they have to try something right now.

To me that is hard to do when you are talking a 1 year situation. There is little time to form any type of real bond with your teammates.

I know what I say is sacrilege, but it I really believe it to be the truth.

Brett Favre has ALWAYS been overrated. His STYLE of play is what won the guy a ton of fans (especially in the media - see John Madden), and his STATS (The TD passes - while ignoring the Interceptions) looked great. But the guy got ALL the credit when he played on VERY GOOD TEAMS. The Packers of the 90's, when he was at his best, were very talented clubs in their own right, but the only guy who got the press was Favre, as if it was a one man team.

Did Favre have talent? Pretty obvious that he had great talent.
Did Favre have some good seasons? Pretty obvious that he had some great seasons.
Did Favre hurt his team, especially in big games? Over and over again.

And that is the reason I say he was overrated. The guy was a stat hound, and an attention hound, but he was not a great big game QB in my book.

You could always count on him to throw the back breaking pick, and you still can.

So the Vikings can have him, especially at this stage of his career.

I agree with the bond not being able to be formed in a year.

He'll be OK, though, as long as he doesn't show up acting like a savior for the francise and demanding special treatment.

I imagine most of the Viking players realize that they're in a win-now mode and, regardless of how popular Tavaris jackson or Sage might be, I doubt most of the players have a huge degree of confidence in either of them.

As long as Favre doesn't act like a pompous *** and he plays well, I'm sure he'll get along with them OK.

Sure will be better than the QB's they have now....with the running game, yes that will be why he can be good for them.

Jackson needs to show a LOT more improvement then just when to throw touch and when to throw lasers. He's a horrible decision maker and he just plain sucks the vast majority of the time he's playing. He did have a pretty nice little 4 TD game last year though.

2. You don't become the leagues all time TD leader by not throwing bunches of them.

It works both ways.

That is all.
