Sheli is sitting at 99 touchdown passes right now and might break 100 next week against us. IF he does, he'll have 100 TD's in 74 games.

Romo is sitting at 84 touchdowns right now and will break 100 this season easily. His 84 touchdowns have come in 41 games.

Marino holds the record for fewest games played to reach 100 passes. He did it in 44 games.

Johnny Unitas hit 100 TD's in 53 games.

Peyton Manning hit 100 TD's in 56 games.

Before this season is through, Romo will own the #2 spot for fewest games to 100 TD's. He has a chance to tie Marino, but realistically it's an extreme long shot to get 16 TD's in 3 games.

Just shows you how good our franchise QB really is.

It doesn't prove how good a franchise he is, Different era, you can't compare todays game with thirty years ago. I'd say those stats put up by others thirty to fifty years ago are more impressive..

Only stats you need to know about Romo, -0-2 in playoffs, poor december records and poor play with lots of turnovers..

I think Romo not trying to be Tom Brady will go a long way towards him winning a playoff game... winning a Super Bowl, I dont see it!

Wow. Serious deja vu. I could've sworn this thread was posted months ago.

And Marino was without a doubt a great, great QB. Wasn't his fault his team didn't win a Super Bowl. IMO he's way underappreciated.

The point you are missing is Tony Romo is past the "impressive" stats in the Regular Season stage.

Stage 1 - Prove you can play in the NFL

Stage 2 - Prove that you can have success in the Regular Season

Stage 3 - Prove that you can have success in the Playoffs

Stage 4 - Prove that you are one of the best to ever play in the NFL

Tony Romo is in Stage 3, him putting up great numbers is just that, great but right now, even Tony Romo will tell you the most important thing is to get the Playoff Monkey off us his back.

I still remember when the vast majority on this board felt Romo couldn't achieve stage 1.

I thought people were just being funny by calling Eli, "Elisha", but thats really his name on his birth certificate. Learn something new everyday.

Romo is the only quarterback in history to average at least two touchdown passes per game as a starter (he has 81 TD passes as a starter in 40 games started).

Marino took his career average over 2.0 during his second season and kept it there until his ninth season, but it dropped significantly for the rest of his career. He ended up at 1.74 per game.

Wow, Johnny U did that well back in the '50's and '60's!? Back when the QBs and WRs weren't protected so well, and the rules did not favor them as much. Pretty impressive....and he called his own plays.

Marino's underappreciated as well. I'd take Elway above him, but he's probably my second pick at all time QB.

The fact that Romo is near this level of production is dang great.

Romo is a great QB. There are only a couple guys, right now, that I'd take over him. Which means I'm pretty darn happy to have him. I believe he'll have his playoff success and I do believe he'll get a Superbowl win. The thing is those accomplishments are not individual accomplishments those are team ones. Romo isn't ever getting any of those until his team starts also filling up those accomplishments for themselves as well.

You don't know WTH you're talking about..........and I'm not buying into this crap that Ware and Witten are great players til they win a play-off game.

Do you guys know their Dec record? 20 sacks is nice, but how many came in Dec wins?

For some reason, they don't consider playoff games for the 100 TD's. The Colt's official stats show Manning as having made 100 in 56 games. If they counted playoff games, it would have been 58 games as he was still short of 100 entering week 9 of the season where he broke 100 TD"s. He needed two going into that week 9, and since he had only thrown 1 TD in those two playoff games he would have been sitting at his 58th game.

Similarly, when I went looking at Kurt Warner's stats which are also quoted on the Colt's official website they say he made his 100 in 50 games. If you count his playoff games, he would have done it in 48 games.

From their website: was 4th-fastest to 100 TDs, taking 56 games (44, Marino; 50, Warner; 53, Unitas)…

Here's the link, but it's buried in that 8 point font mess. http://www.colts.com/sub.cfm?page=bio&player_id=8

Marino throws the monkey in the wrench because he got to 100 in 44 games if you count the playoffs or you don't.

I don't know if it is statistically correct to count the game Tony entered to kneel down the last play. If not, he has 40 games with 84 touchdown passes.

No, like I said, Romo has thrown passes in 42 regular season games. He has 40 starts (10 in 2006, 16 in 2007, 13 in 2008 and one in 2009), plus the Giants game in 2006 when he replaced Bledsoe (and threw two TD passes), plus the week before that, when he threw two passes (one for a TD) against Houston.

In 2005, he came in to kneel down twice against the Eagles. I wasn't counting that as one of the 42 games in which he's thrown passes.

And no, playoff games aren't counted in career statistical records, which is why Emmitt's rushing record is 18,355 yards instead of 19,941.

Man, I could only imagine the uproar if Tony had thrown an INT against Tampa Bay like the one Eli threw on Sunday. He threw off his back foot, across his body, into coverage. It was a perfect storm of stupid. It's a good thing for Eli that he gets a lifetime free pass because his magical clutch powers singlehandedly willed David Tyree to catch a ball against his helmet.

It would be painfully obvious at this point that I didn't major in math. 42, you're right on the money.
