Romo's no flash in the pan

I gotta admit that each game Romo has started, I have been waiting for the proverbial "wheels to fall off"---the clock to strike midnight and Tony turn back into a pumpkin. I mean, come on, we have been praying for the answer at Qb since Aikman retired only to see one after another flop miserably.

But there are a couple things that amaze me about this undrafted free agent

1.check out his eyes. Especially on replays in slow motion, you can see him go through his progressions, scan the field and make an instant decision and release. Compare that to other young or rookie Qb's and they lock on or panic.

2. His release is Marino like. He makes his read, decides and bam it is out of there. How many sacks has he saved with this release?

3.His accuracy is amazing. Watching other games with established Qb's like say Plummer, and Romo's accuracy is far superior. Remember the pass to Glenn in the 2nd half yesterday for about 38 yards? Romo rolls out and on the move drops it into Terry's hands. Initially the cb had apparent coverage, but Glenn got a bit of separation and Tony put it in the spot where he could get it on the run. Same with the slant. It seems every slant is on time and on the hands allowing the receiver to continue. Even deep passes are right on the money--case in point, the pass that Owens dropped for a TD against Washington.

4.His coolness under pressure. Bledsoe seemed to go into a shell after some pressure and hits. It seemed his brain went to a happy place and he was functioning in sloooow motion. Nothing bothers Romo. After all, his first starts were on the road in a hostile environment

5. His joy for the game. He really seems to have fun playing. Did you see him patting the ref after one td yesterday. He is keeping everyone loose in the huddle. TO seems to actually like him, the OL must just love him. I mean, teammates can smell a phony a mile away--(see Joey Harrington)

I think we are ok for QB for a while

This allows us to quit chasing the QB position in the draft and fill other holes as well

Well put, very well put.

I was a bit spectical at first. I knew Romo would bring some movement so we'd get less sacks and I knew his arm was good, but not this good.

He is only getting more in tune with his guys each week.

Such a high completion percentage and it's not dink and dunk, it's real passing, leads the NFL in yards per attempt.

He gets the snap and his reads are lightning quick.

He finds the gap and the ball is out. It's a condfidence between Romo and his receivers/TEs, but this speed also tells the OL, hey block for 3 seconds at most on 90% of the plays. If not 3 seconds, I'll move and you just hold your block, don't even need to be a superstar.

That slant pass to T.O for TD was one of the quickest passes I've seen anyone throw.

It was like snap, zip, 6 points.

I have NEVER been skeptical. You could see the star in the making at practice. I was in CALLY for camp and he was by far the better QB.

Good points, and just to add one more, how about Romo's penchant for always looking for the play that may lie 15-20 yards down the field instead of the dump-off pass? Granted, this can sometimes be dangerous but so far he's taken the right chances, even when they haven't all been completions.

It just makes it that much fun to watch him knowing that he's most likely going to fire it down the field every passing play and that there's a chance good things are going to happen. Aikman said it yesterday, unlike most quarterbacks, Romo scans the field from the deep part down, as opposed to the other way around.

Not to throw anything negative into this thread but imagine if TO didn't have a case of the dropsies? Imagine if he started hauling in some of those passes? His completion percentage would be even higher, as would his QB rating.

I mean.. it really is getting ridiculous. I, as well as you guys, have been waiting for the wheels to fall off or for him to have a bad game but he is just money.

I'm so excited.

Supposedly Bledsoe used to scan the field deep to short and we changed it from short to deep so he would get the ball out faster. It obviously didn't work. I guess he scans too slow.

Ok, ok, so he's not a flash in the pan. But what I really want to know is:

is he a one trick pony?
