How many QBs could have brought his team back within the last 24 seconds*and 2 scores down* to win the game....After throwing 5 ints and losing a fumble?

How many QBs could have even turned such a game around..And WIN it?

I did a bit of research against some of the greats and current greats. Be surprised...I couldn't find a single one. Perhaps you can....

Some Legendary QBs with 5 picks in one game....

Dan Marino-1999 Loss
Brett Favre-2005 Loss
Troy Aikman-2000 Loss

O.K. then how about 4 picks in a game with current "Great QBs" and *one Legend*....

Tom Brady 5 times-(2006,2005,,2004,2003,2001) Loss-Loss-Loss-Loss-Loss
Brett Favre 3 times -(2003,2002,1999) Loss-Loss-Loss
Peyton Manning-(2001) Loss
Roethlisbereger-(2006) Loss
Jim Kelly-(1996) Loss

Yes, it was a bad day for Romo....When his Magic show didn't go as planned, he still pulled the rabbit out of the hat at the end. Try to find me a QB that can make a great day out of his worst possible one...I can't.

BTW Romo has never thrown 5 ints until today, not even 4...His worst was 3 ints when he replaced Bledsoe in his first NFL action.

If you want to keep looking try www.pro-football-reference.com ....I certainly couldn't find any, but feel free.

Give me Romo as my franchise QB any, and every day of the week!:starspin

And who can forget the amazing 6 interception extravaganza that Favre had against the Rams in the playoffs? That man really has issues in a dome.

I agree, I'm not leaving Folk out..He's unreal.

I was just pointing to the fact that most (or every) QB that has had these kind of days seems to *tuck their tail between their legs and wait for the next week*

Romo simply "got up just one more time than he fell down" to lead this team down the field for scores..Twice.

And yes...Folk, and our Defense were incredible as well. Not taking anything away from them.:starspin

Romo pulled a rabbit out of a hat because he got a million opportunities. I mean who in the hell on this forum actually believed we would have an onside kick go 20 yards upfield and then recover it. The Bills didn't defend the most obvious pass in NFL history to Crayton, then our rookie kicker with ice water in his veins nails 2 53 yarders. Romo finally getting it done is like building a house 3 times in a row and have it collapse each time, then finally getting it right on the 4th time.

I love Romo and I am 100% behind him, but he played like arse tonight. But that's going to happen. No quarterback in the history of this league has been perfect. Aikman started 1-14, and he now has 3 rings. Brady has thrown 4 picks in a game like five times. No QB is perfect and for us to expect Romo to have a 130 rating every week with 4 TD passes and a rushing touchown is ludicrous.

Romo did nothing alone. We won on a on sides kick. Couldnt have been more lucky. By good fortune we played one of the worst teams ever.

Luck = The proper meeting of preperation and circumstance.

So yes, thus came our good fortune.:starspin

Well said - it wasn't luck that our defense came out dominant again, or that Romo led us on six scoring drives, or that Nick Folk IS SO ****ING MONEY!!!!!!

Clearly I am still psyched.

So Nick Folk wasn't prepared? Our Defense? We never prepared to do an onside kick? Never prepared the two-minute drill?

The circumstance didn't present itself. Therefore, the Dallas Cowboys had to make their own circumstance...At the end to win the game.

However, the main post is about how many QBs would "continue to mess up right until the clock struck 00:00"? Romo turned it around right at the end when he needed to. As did our entire TEAM. Thus "The proper meeting of PREPERATION and CIRCUMSTANCE".

Hotty, no offense buddy. But I am not going to give credit where its not due. You can, and have fun. We certainly deserve the win.

But prepared? This was a huge let down, all things considered. I think there was a general lack of preparation. Now, Buf, they were prepared to fluster Romo and make it a game. For an awful team they did a great job.

But, I have trouble talking about Romo "bringing us back" as you suggested. In the game I watched, the team bailed Romo out. Romo made some plays too and thats all that counts.

But Romo was the reason we fell behind. Why should I credit him for the turn around? LOL. In the game I watched, with the game on the line and 7 minutes(or whatever left) Romo fumbled holding the ball out with one hand, then after a great ints by TNew, Romo threw another pick. Correct? After cutting the lead, we blew an easy 2 point conversion. Then came the on sides kick, which took a "prepared" bounce.

Sorry, preparation is not the word I would use. Luck works.

No Offense taken. I agree..Romo got us in a bind, the Defense bailed him out. The ST coverage put us in a bind...The team bailed them out. And then after Romo's final TD and the failed 2 pt conversion.....

The Special Teams who "prepared" to do onsides kicks did their job with the "circumstantial" bounce.;)

We were prepared , but had a bad day on offense (it happens). But in the end the preperation met the circumstance; after 59 minutes of the "bad luck".:D

Appreciate the data you provided. Sure puts things into prospective when you see how often Brady has such bad games. Romo got too eager to make the play early on instead of taking what the defense was giving him--something he has done superbly to date. Our defense hang in there but initially our ST & certainly our offense let the team down. But near the end of the game, Romo was still able to pull something within himself to get us in to scoring position for a TD but not the 2 pointer we also needed; he didn't get much help from TO. A great ST play by Folk, Hurd & Curtis got us close & Romo got us even closer for Folk to become a Folk hero.

And that on-side kick and the events that followed wasn't luck or an accident. Several of the players were quoted as saying they performed on-side kicks in practice on many occasions and that devotion to detail paid off last night.

Just to add to the OP

In 06 Brady did it against the Colts, they finished raked 21st, but were playing awful defense when they matched up against NE.

In 05 he did it against KC, who was ranked 25th.

In 03, Favre did it against 23rd ranked Minnesota, and in 05 - he tossed 5 picks against 28th ranked Cincinnatti.

In 06 Roethlisberger did it against 32nd ranked Oakland.

Not exactly defensive juggernauts, eh?

You guys can say anything you want about each one of Romo's 5 INT's, .. and you would probably be right.

Be think about this ... you are on MNF, all of your friends and family are watching, the world is watching, and you are having the worst night of your football career.

Do you pout, do you go into a funk, do you feel sorry for yourself, do you let up or even give up?

No, you pick yourself up and drive your team to a very important FG just before the half, .. and then you take your team down for a mandatory TD with less than 4 minutes to go.

And then move them into FG range for Folks game winner.

That is the moxie some of you talk about, .. those are Roger Staubach like accomplishments. Game changing performance.

Despite having his worst day as a pro, he found a way at the end to put his team into position to win.

Just like when I watched Staubach, I know we always have a chance with Romo.

Great OP and nice follow-up by sp.

I'll add that according to si.com, Romo faced 13 blitzes last night and converted the 1st down on 7 of them. That's a great percentage, considering he did it on a night when he threw 5 picks (none of which, by the way, came against a blitz.)

In fact, for the season, Romo has been blitzed 38 times, converted 20 first downs, been sacked on three of those, and has a 132.7 rating when blitzed.

Regarding the other QBs that threw 4-5 INTs and lost their games. I wonder how many of those QBs benefited from a defense that held their opponent to 3 points, absolutely clutch field goal kicking, and a surreal onside kick recovery that gave the team yet another opportunity to win the game. Amazing how a team bails out a QB and yet a lot of people think his performance was somehow better than some of those other QBs.

The only positive I saw is that Romo finally took what the defense gave him on the last few drives, and he started taking the short passes and dump-offs instead of forcing the ball down field. I do think that the vertical passing game had been so successful the past few weeks that Garrett/Romo started getting a little cocky with it, and maybe this will teach them a little patience. I'm sort of glad he went through this in this game, instead of the game next week against Pats.
