On Mike and Mike, he was asked about his thoughts about the Cowboys.

Ron Jaworski:

As we just discussed, I talked about how the Colts know how to win and how they have great leadership. Conversely, Dallas doesn't know how to win in tight football games late in the Season. I don't think it is physical with the Dallas Cowboys, I believe it is mental. Not sure what it is going to take, maybe a fiery speech from Wade Phillips or Jerry Jones doing something but they seem to loose their confidence late in the season. The Cowboys seem like a team that is always waiting for something negative to happen.

I believe past failures in December really haunt this team mentally.

They could really exorcise some demons by defeating the Saints this Saturday.

I agree. I do happen to think what's happened in the past affects this team. I know not everyone agrees with that, but it is what it is. This game with the Saints, IMO, will speak volumes as to where this team is mentally.

I know -- Jerry could tell them all about when he tried to buy the Raiders... Or had his credit card cut up at Love Field... Or about his first oil well...

I bet that would work.

its gonna take a coach that instills confidence in the team, not one that looks like he doesnt know whats going on half the time

The problem is that nobody on this roster is afraid of losing their job.

Nobody gets benched.

I agree with Jaws to some degree.

I know avoiding turnovers is important but I miss the old playmaking Romo. The guy that even though it was 3rd & 17 you simply couldn't count out.

Does anyone else find it strange that Dallas coaches and Dallas opponents have the same strategy regarding Romo? Keep him in the pocket.

I don't think so.

They won a huge game against NYG last year, then proceeded to turn in 2 of the more embarrassing performances in recent memory. Maybe the worst of the decade against Philly.

I think that when something goes wrong, there is a "here we go again" sense that settles over the team.

Problem is, on top of that, they just aren't playing that well. The defense is struggling to get key stops, and the offense is in a real slump inside the 20. The offense hasn't had a complete game in several weeks.

Who would you bench right now?

I'd say a bigger problem is that everyone blames everything on the coaches. Yes, coaching is important. But people always scream "No excuses, put up or shut up this time!" Well, if we lose at the end of the year, all the focus will go on the coaching and none on the players. Jerry will make sure of that, because he'll be selling how the new coach is going to get more out of these players and take advantage of their talents.

i think ron was talking about many of the fans in here.

"emotional insurance" is what i call it.
realist is what they call it.

I understand that when you bench a starter, you are leaving your team vulnerable.

And keep in mind, I am not saying bench a guy for the entire Season or for an entire game.

But I believe Terence Newman should have been benched for pushing Dave Campo.

I also believe that Flozell Adams should sit out a quarter for penalties and fines.

Like Tom Coughlin did with some of his guys on defense. You ensure they get quite a bit of playing time but you yank them for a couple of plays or a quarter to send a message that mediocre play won't be tolerated.

Nobody on this roster is fearful of losing playing time.

Jaws is right...you can see them deflate the moment something negative happens.

Wade looks like he's going to cry.

Romo sits on the bench, shoulders slumped.

Everyone else has there heads down, like three-year-olds who just had there candy stripped away.

I see Manning in Indy and he rises off the bench and starts warming up like he is going to throw the ball through a wall.

Sean Payton looks as calm in crisis as he does before the kickoff.

Still no vocal leader on this team.

So you put Pat McQuistan at left tackle and possibly get Romo killed to show Flozell he shouldn't push Justin Tuck in the back?

No thanks.

How do we know Tony Romo would get killed if Pat McQuistan got more playing time or that the defense would go to hell in a hand basket if Terence Newman sat for a while?

I believe this is exactly the mindset some of these players have. They know Wade Phillips doesn't have what it takes to call their bluff, take a chance on a lesser player to send the appropriate message.

It's just like in the real world, which most of us work. If you know you can do anything you want at work and there are no consequences, then your company isn't going to be as productive as it could be.

I think Keith Brooking is trying to fill that void but the void is just way too big for one person who has only been with the team for 1 Season to fill.

Or that's not the problem at all and San Diego is really better than we are.

you just need to stop with that silly talk. that type of honesty doesn't go well around here unless you follow it up with "but jones still sucks".
