If was a betting man, I think they might have saw so many teams going to a 3-4, that they needed to add extra numbers.

They let WRs wear teens a few years ago for the same reason

Damien Wilson has a funny number. Robert Newhouse's old one. Wonder why Nzeocha has a number in the 40s as well. Oh wait, we have so many linebackers we ran out of numbers in the fifties.

It all makes sense now.

The players are told what numbers are available and they choose. Gregory was originally going with #99, but Ryan Russell wore #99 at Purdue and now has it.

Wrong.(if you are not kidding).There are rules the league has for numbers/positions and just because the younger generation thinks their individualism should let them do whatever they want to be differentdoes that mean they shouldn't have to follow those rules
