NFL | Crosby Completes another Workout
Wed, 13 Jul 2005 05:25:40 -0700

Patrick Obley, of the State, reports supplemental draft candidate WR <A href="http://www.kffl.com/player/12542/nfl">Roscoe Crosby (Clemson) completed another workout for scouts Tuesday, July 12. He completed his receiving drills by demonstrating a strong burst off the line and catching everything QB Shaun King threw. In addition to showing what he can do on the field, Crosby has had to answer tough questions from scouts concerning his background. Crosby said it was a breach-of-contract arbitration battle with the Royals that kept him out of action following Clemson's 2003 season opener against Georgia. Reportedly, the Carolina Panthers, the New Orleans Saints and the New York Giants are the front-runners among the 17 teams that attended Crosby's pro day July 1.

Looks like Dallas is out of it. Too bad, I think we need some better young prospects. Carolina doesn't play around, do they?

Crosby played baseball. Certainly we're a front-runner too.

Pretty phenomenal workout ... ran his 3 cone drill in 6.85 and his short shuttle in 3.90. Significant because there was a rumor that he was more straight line fast and wasn't quick and didn't have change of direction ability. Clearly not the case. Also displayed great hands, not dropping a single pass in 40 minutes of route running. The workout was run by representatives of the Panthers organization. It was held in Carolina, in Crosby's backyard. I would say the Panthers are definitely front runners.

I don't care if he played professional bowling, Parcells claims this is a talent aquisition league ... he has the ability to aquire some young talent on the cheap.

Doing a little research as to who those workout measurables most resemble from recently drafted WR's. The closest comparison I could find ...

Roy Williams
6'2" 211 lbs.
4.37-4.44 40 yard dash
3.97 short shuttle
6.75 three-cone drill

Roscoe Croby
6'2" 218 blbs.
4.39-4.48 40 yard dash
3.95 short shuttle
6.85 three cone drill

Where did you get these numbers? Crosby is not that fast. I am pretty sure that he was more of a 4.5 guy.

I think his combined average, for the 40, was something like 4.4 in his personal workout.

His original workout in May, he was timed between 4.38 and 4.44 depending on the stopwatch.

He has consistently been around 4.4 for his career (short). A few sub 4.4s but in general a 4.4+ guy. Plenty fast enough.

Crosby is fast, you must not have seen him at Klumpson. I wished we would take a chance on him 5th round.

We do have two sixth round picks though and thats about where he is expected to go and the local reporters have said that the Cowboys are interested in him.

Man, Im excited about a guy like him. The BEST thing besides his 6'2 body with 4.3-4.4 range speed..

HE IS 22 . Even if we put him on the practice squad he would STILL be the average age of a guy coming out of college, AND have experience in the pro's from learning at practice.

Thanks for the note on the local coverage of the Cowboys interest. I belong to a pay draft site that lists the Cowboys as one of four teams that have shown the most interest along with the Saints, Chiefs and Panthers. Our record was worse than all of those teams last year, so they would have to bid a round higher than us to get him. We also have a great reference source as well ... his former QB at Clemson is on our roster.
I haven't been this intrigued by a supplemental draft prospect for the Cowboys since Jamal Williams came out in 98. I'm still pissed of we didn't use a 2nd round pick to draft him. The fact that we took Solomon Page in the draft with that pick the following year just rubs salt in the wound.

With that workout he may have moved into the 5th. And I still think he's far and away better than anything we could get in the 5th round next year. The only WR's taken in the 5th round this year were 5'9" Airese Currie (who I liked, but will never be anything but a career slot WR) and a community college player who probably won't even see the field this year. Crosby is a project player, but a project WR taken in the 5th round is a bargain these days. This last draft had project WR's taken in the 1st round (Matt Jones) and 2nd round (Mark Bradley, Vincent Jackson). Those guys aren't going to be big contributors for their teams next year. And next year's draft class is certainly nothing to write home about. Most mocks I see don't have the first WR going off the board until the late 1st.

I just don't get Parcells logic in all this regarding the WR position. The two guys we have are supposed to be 2 of his most prized pupels (Key/Glenn)...so why doesn't he get a project in their for them to carve out...pass some of that on?

As is now, they're just two old guys with talent that could go down at any second to injury. IMO, they're money is not being made if they're not passing on what they know. It's like what is the point..

..And I mean pass their knowlegde on to someone worthy of recieving it...not some practice squad/lower-tier guy, but somebody with potential...like Roscoe.
