Roy doesn't play for the Cheatriots, of course he was gonna lose.

The NFL has denied Cowboys safety Roy Williams' appeal of his one-game suspension without pay for Sunday's illegal "horse-collar" tackle on Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb. Williams will not be eligible to play Saturday at Carolina.
The following is a statement from the league:
"Commissioner Goodell has denied the appeal of the one-game suspension of Roy Williams. The ‘horse collar’ tackling technique is prohibited because the Competition Committee and the clubs have determined that it presents an unacceptable risk to player safety. Rules that protect and advance player safety must be enforced in a way that will deter violations and prevent injuries from occurring."
Total crap. I'd love to demonstrate for the Commish how that tackle is not any more dangerous than any tackle from behind.

Ridiculous rule. Oh well.

Disclaimer: This restriction does not apply to players that are part of the Patriots organization."

The author of the article left out some of the ruling.

I couldn't agree more Hostile. The "horse collar" was used in the Monday night game on the goal line in the 2nd half (I think) and it wasn't even called. Ditto for the Chargers game the other night.

If Roy was throwing himself on the back of players legs, it would be a lot more dangerous and perfectly legal! In fact isn't the "horse collar" legal inside the tackle box? This is one of the worst rules this candy-*** league has. We ought to just play it w/ a video game or flags...

I will never complain about it not being called. I don't like the rule. It doesn't protect anyone.

Exactly! If this is such a dangerous tackle, then why is it allowed under certain circumstances?

Yea, except you're in the minority in those that actually know.

Just off the top of my head, I've heard R. White, T. Casillas, N. Newton etc etc say otherwise.

Not to mention at least two of Williams' teammates. One of whom lines up just to his right.

Some things aren't called, but the league watches the video, send the fines out later. (just saying)

And as for the rule itself, it's set up to prevent knees and ankles from snapping on a regular basis. I know we don't like the rule, but if we're trying to protect people from things that can be avoided, then I'm all for it.

If some think we should get rid of the rule, might as well allow "cow-roping" groin kicking, body slamming QBs after ball is gone, clipping should be allowed, yanking helmet down by face mask should be legal, chop blocks should be legal, I can go on and one. (i'm being funny but you get the point)

Just cause the rule just started, doesn't make it a bad rule.

Captain Renault: I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!
[a croupier hands Renault a pile of money]
Croupier: Your winnings, sir.
Captain Renault: [soft voice] Oh, thank you very much.

Wow! They denied his appeal. What a shock!?!?!!! Well at least he tried! You will be missed this game Roy!

Roy. Just. Can't. Win. Not matter what he does, he cannot win.

You obviously have never played the game in an organized setting if you call the horse-collar technique a textbook tackle.

Up until two years ago, it was a textbook tackle. In college ball, it still is.

In short, you have no idea what you're talking about, but that's probably fairly obvious to most.

Well Saturday will be interesting now if nothing else should be interesting to see how this board deals with not having Roy to blame for every 2st down we give up:lmao:

The focus will be moved back to Bradie James or Flozell's false start. And we'll have a 400 count thread about it. ;)
