Just wondering who the board thought was a better pro at this point. I have seen on many other boards how Roy sucks in coverage and how Troy can do it all. I haven't seen him play many games and wanted opinions of ppl on the board who have seen both play a bit.

Polamalu is easily the better player.

I would make an argument that Polamalu is the BEST SAFETY in all of the NFL challenged only by Ed Reed.

You watch enough Steelers games and you'll see what a force that guy is in every aspect of the game and he is always around the ball. One of the best Safeties I have ever seen. He can flat out play.

And I love some Roy Williams so you know I'm being honest here.

I looked up their stats and Roy avgs more int, tackles and ff's a year. He is very close in PD per year along with sacks. I think Roy brings the intimidation factor, not to mention how he brings the wood and flat out hurts people.

Why is Troy that much better. Instincts? Speed?

Instincts,
Instincts,
Instincts.

You have to watch him.

One of my good friends is a Steelers fan so I watch every game.

The guy is a playmaker.

He is everything that we DO NOT have at Safety.

He lays the wood but not as deadly as Roy.
But Troy will come leaping from off the screen and catch an INT while he is laid out flat in the air. Then he'll land, roll, get up and juke like 3 guys on the return and leap over another one. He gives his team a spark that is often times needed.

He really is worth watching because like most Safties you won't see him for a drive or two. But when you do, he always does something amazing.

I really don't like the fact he is only 5'10 210 pounds as opposed to Roy being 6'0 235. SS are supposed to strike fear in WR's and I don't think he is feared on that level. Like I said before Roy makes more bigs plays and the stats will back that up. But I will defer to you for now being that I have only seen him play a hand full of times including today. From what I saw today he was pretty damm good, however not anything great enough to make me believe he is better than Roy.

I watch nearly every Steeler game and Polamalu is the safety I thought Roy would be. Stats do not tell the whole story. Polamalu definitly affects the outcome of game more so than Roy. I wish we would use Roy like they use Troy but I don't think Roy is athetic enough to do all they ask Polamalu to do.

Agreed. As a Blitzer and within 10 yards, Roy is the best safety...but Troy P.
really is up there with Ed Reed. The guy is amazing

Stats will tell you nothing about how Polamalu plays.

He brings a certain "it" that stats can not reflect.

He is extremely athletic.

Troy is also good for at least one 15 yard penalty a game.

I don't agree that Troy is better in coverage. I have seen him beat many times. He is very good around the line of scrimmage. I would say that he and Roy have the exact same strengths and weaknesses.

its apples and oranges, and depends on the scheme. in Pittsburg they have established themselves as a perennial top defensive team - nobody will argue that. but with the LBs they have, a more free-ranging safety fits their personnel and scheme better than ours, which is still in its infancy. i'm telling you, next year when we get a true free safety and upgrade our LBs we will see Roy in Hawaii yet again...

I love how the NFL guys talk about Roy as a difference maker and the fans talk about him as a severe liability. The dichotomy is hilarious.

I would just love to see some one dragg Troy down by his hair after an INT one time:)

I watch a lot of Steeler game as well and I would say they are about even but I preffer Roy as a SS over Polamalu.

That is true, which I still cannot believe that the Cowboys have spent the last two years without a true FS making their best defender play out of position. Any scheme that has Roy Williams in deep coverage as oppose to playing from 15 yards in is flawed!

They seem pretty even to me. However Troy is put in a position to make more plays overall.

All I know is, the Steelers got more value from Polamalu at 16 or wherever they picked him than we did Roy at 8. They are both definite playmakers, but Troy, without a shadow of a doubt, earned his Pro Bowl spot while Roy kinda cruised to his. RIght now, I think the Steelers got the better player.
