I don't know of too many guys who's calling card is how physical they are that go on to have long careers. People will blame Kelly Rowland or him finding religion but IMO, the guy played too fast and physical to have that long of a career. He had a solid career. It tapered of the last few years but he had a solid run. Was definetly fun to watch.

IMO, he had to be on performance enhancing drugs and then he got off.

You don't just go from being a dominant player to getting exposed on 2 plays by Mark Brunell and then sucking the rest of your career because of it.

i took that as a Joke, she's soft on the eyes. Roy's game went South after Darren Woodson. He had more coverage responsibility couldnt handle it. I was a fan, love him when he was making big hits. Really loved it when he picked Mc Flabb to win the game. Thats was a great day!!!!!!!

The clock struck midnight (literally), and McNabb turned back into a pumpkin. I remember it so well because my DVR cut off at exactly midnight, and I missed recording Roy's romp into the end zone.

Yeah, but what I said was true. Roy was never the same after that game. He was totally exposed. Sure, he went to the Pro Bowl after the 2007 season, but that was a total fluke. I don't know how he lasted as long as he did with the Bengals.

And that is a good point. I didn't think that there might be a specific turning point for RW, but if there was one, that might be it.

Just watched him get destroyed on a Bengals version of Hard Knocks in the Oklahoma drill. This is a drill where two players pretty much run full speed into each other and see who wins.

To my point, what ever happened to this guy? Never in my life, in any sport, have I ever witnessed someone fall so low from being so high. I remember watching him and thinking he has the makings to be one of the best safeties in Cowboys history. It's not even like he only got exposed in coverage, he also became soft with his tackling. The Roy Williams rule was only when he was chasing, has nothing to do with head up contact. I know he supposedly was "reborn" with the church but it has to be something deeper then that. Damn Roy

Can't lie, he really brought something to this team/ D when he was on point.

Wish we had a player like that today.

What Xwalker and abe said is true, he lacked heart. I saw TC in 2007 in person and he did not care to even stretch in that camp, he barely went through the motions of the drills, it was pathetic. That was the one thing that shocked me that year.

I wasn't saying it had anything to do with anger. I told you the event that occurred right before his game went in the garbage. IMO, his inability to play had everything to do with focus. He lost his focus when that event happened. He never got it back before he started to lose it physically.

IIRC he had shoulder issues the later portion of his career that probably made him tentative playing his style

I don't know why it went south, but as a rookie he was the most dominant safety in the game. Look at the numbers, look at the highlights, he was an absolute force as a rookie. He was downright scary.

Edit: Rewatching Boom right now just to make sure I wasn't remembering him as being better than he was. I wasn't. You want to know why Marshall Faulk hates the Cowboys? Because Roy Williams made him his *****, Faulk thought he'd lower his head and keep going and Roy stopped him dead, buckled his legs and caused him to cough the ball up. And he damn near killed that poor kick returner from the Niners and then recovered the fumble he caused in the process. The carnage he caused as a rookie was beautiful.

The game changed. He wasn't really a traditional cover 2 safety when the offenses in the league changed to attack that deep zone.

And he suffered from what a lot of other safeties like him suffer from...when they have a fellow safety to direct them around and put them in the best position to make plays they are terrors (i.e. with Darren Woodson). When that guy is gone, they are no longer the same safety. I think it's a big reason why Kam Chancellor is so good right now. I see they ranked Chancellor higher on the top-100 list than Earl Thomas, but I think if Chancellor got injured, Thomas would still be dominating. Can't say that if it was the other way around.
