Yeah yeah ...I know he was out of position last season -regardless, he wasn't Great...in fact he was poor in plenty of games...Big Hits don't mean much if you get burned or miss a coverage or tackle...

This season - I want a resounding Pro Bowl nomination....I want him to be the defensive leader...and playmaker.....

As of now....and I love Roy....he's a tad...a wee bit....over-hyped for his career. He's a Big Hitter, has made some big plays - BUT he is not GREAT ...yet.

This season ...I want "Great"

(And don't start the crap of attacking me personally - this is my observation of one of my favorite players)

I think you will see it. I've seen glimpses of what he can do in this defense already!
AZ Game- Blew up Arrington for the fumble.
AZ Game- Had a clean shot on Warner, but got lost for some reason. Not a normal play for Roy.
Seattle game- Came on a blitz at the goal line with a big blow.
I bring these reason up, because I see how Troy Palimulu(SP), Pitts S has thrived in this D and I consider Roy a better and more rounded player than Troy. He have to make some adjustments, but all in all he is back in position that made DC fear him his rookie and 2nd year.

It would be great to see Roy prove he has improved in pass coverage but for game 1 against SD I'll be more than happy to take "classic" Roy and see him up in the box and knocking the snot out of Tomlinson.

Ofcourse that plan goes out the window if Davis falls apart at FS out there. He had a great hit in the Seattle game but the kid needs to realize that Roy is the one to come up to the line and force the action and he needs to stay back there for deep help. Our corners better be up for the challenge particularly early in the year as Davis and the LB corp learn the ropes.

While playing in a different position is not much of an exscuse, it's still valid imo. Not only that with a weak secondary Roy had a lot more responsabilities on his shoulders than he was use to. Being it was his first time, I chalk it up to inexperience. I think you see a better Roy this year with the secondary looking more solid and allowing Roy to do more of the "Roy" thing.

No need to attack you personally this time (though of course, you bring that on yourself with your posting style)... I'll just point out that if you really know football, you know WHY Roy had a disappointing season last year-- he was being forced to play out of position at FS, where his weak point (coverage) was emphasized, while his strong point (playing in the box) was negated...

This year, he will play his natural position exclusively, a position that fits his skills much better... therefore, it is eminently reasonable to expect him to play somewhat better...

Well I personally could not judge his play, relatively, to any thing displayed by the defense or lack there of. A lot of bad stuff on the feild for defensive personnel last year and it's a valid reason for Roy's slight decline. I think he'll be schemed around this year again. As for leadership, I don't think Roys personality allows him to be that. That's fine with me though, we got a couple new guys can do that. Burnett and Canty I'm thinking.
Yeah, you'll get your "great" this year. Roy just is.

Thats funny cause most who play the game in real life not in here would beg to differ with your assesment.Admittedly last year was not prolific for Roy nor any other defensive player for that matter. When the unit sucks as whole its hard for anyone player to shine much.Roy will be fine as the unit as whole will step up I believe.

I have to admit I usually ignore most of your posts because of the trollish nature of them, but I tend to agree with this one 100%. You have a point with this one. Roy has received a ton of hype that he has yet to live up to. Big hits are one thing, but MAKING PLAYS is what we drafted him for. He needs to either justify the hype or take his rightful label as an average player with big hit capability.

I love Roy, but he's not Great.......YET. Will he get there? I hope he does, but he's not there right now.

I played the game in real life and have the pain in my once broken leg - on Damp days - to always remind of that - What's your point?
Roy is paid big dollars to play big - last season he was very quiet. Lets not sugar coat it.

Roy is a playmaker. Let's say you are a QB and I make you play running back, how good are you going to do?

Roy has been playing out of position, now he's back in position and he's going to dominate. Receivers are afraid of him, if he gets in on the blitz like he did on Seattle, I'll bet you it's a 80% chance he either strips the ball, cause an interception, or hurt a QB.

But you can not play him at FS, he's not quick or mobile enough for that we all know that.

I agree. Troy Polomalu is looking like the safety we thought Roy would be.

You know that pretty much hits close to the mark. Roy has fallen in love with big hits and everything else needs a lot of work.

As long as they're able to keep Roy anywhere near the box, he will make some big plays. It's the Roy we've all come to know and love.

We know how suspect he is in coverage. Hopefully, the club will be able to effectively maximize his strengths.

And personal attacks, whatever the take, are a no-no.

Yep for every big hit Roy has he makes 5 fundamental tackling mistakes. He whiffed badly on two against the Hawks.

I dont care what anyone says, he is below average in coverage.

He needs to step it up period. A top 10 pick has to be a disruptive force and he hasnt been.

I can think of a lot of other problem areas on this team instead of worrying about Roy Williams. He's the least of our worries.
