Why are guys so quick to label someone a #1 or #2 lol? Does it really matter? Do Cardinals fans worry about who's the #1 between Boldin and Fitz? I just want a reliable receiver. He's becoming more reliable by the week which is a nice first step. Maybe I expect too much out of Roy but i'd like to see him get some throws where he has to make a play for the football. Especially when he's single covered. He did it in Detroit. Unless he's on the downside of his career i'd like to see if he can still do it.
The only way in which it wouldn't matter is if every player on the team was paid the same salary.
But players are paid based on their perceived worth to the team. So when we pay a guy as much money as we paid Roy Williams, a certain level of production is expected. The #1 and #2 labels, in my opinion, simply come from measuring Williams' productivity relative to the rest of the receivers on the team, which is perfectly legitimate.
Like I said the distinction between #1 and #2 would not really mean much if every player was paid the same amount of money, as it'd be inconsequential. But when you have a lot of money invested in a specific guy, you hope he produces at a certain level, as you have only a limited amount of money to work with.
