The Lions can't hold anyone hostage for RW. They know he'll be gone in a year. They're best bet is try to get something for him now. I bet he can be had for an early to late 2nd rounder.

Maybe give them our late 1st, then we swap 2nds.

I'm not willing to trade Ellis for RW. I know about the whole "age" thing, and I don't care. When he's in there, he instantly upgrades this D by leaps and bounds. He's having his best year this year, and he's coming off an injury.

No way I let him go. And you want to throw in a 1st rounder too???

Jeez man, you'd kill this team in you were GM. THe lions would jump all over this.

Remember, RW and Fitz are free agents after next year, so you could get them then and not give up anything but cash (which you're going to have to give up anyway when you sign them). You wouldn't give up a 1st rounder and your 2nd best pass rusher for just one year head start would you? No way.

No doubt, we need a WR of his caliber.

You have a T.O. and then it drops off.

Glenn is on the descent.

After that we have Crayton and Hurd. The former is a solid but nothing-special type compared to a T.O.

Imagine T.O. and Roy lining up at opposite sides of the field and going deep with Witten roaming the flat.

Go get Roy before he is gone. I sure don't want him in Washington or the Giants.
I sure don't want him with the Pats.

I'm not real interested in Williams, I'd rather target a guy like Chad Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald.

I like Chad, but he's a bit of a nut. I'm not sure I want to deal with the sideshows. Helluva wideout though. I love Fitz, but he's going to go to the highest bidder.

RW desperately wants to come back and play in Texas. I think we could get him at a bit of a discount too, I know he wants to be nearer his kid who lives in the midland/odessa area too.

He would be great here. Romo throwing the ball, TO on oneside, Witten up the gut, and RW on the other. Combine that with a Mendenhall or JStew, and a great #3 reciever in Crayton, and I think we'd have something pretty damn special on our hands.

My thought is that with 4 linebackers, he is not needed as close to the line of scrimmage, therefore, he is used more towards the secondary which he just doesn't seem to have the speed to scare opposing teams. Not saying that he can't cover a tightend at times but just seems to lack good speed to cover a WR when needed.

the whole point behind the 3-4 is to disguise where the 4th rusher is coming from, add Roy, and that's 8 potential rush guys that the O has to account for, you can get really creative, although thus far we haven't

That would be killer.

I love that Mendenhall kid.....he is lightning fast.

Just for giggles, you should go read some of the responses on ES (they have a similar thread). They are talking about trading a 5th rounder and Brandon Lloyd for RW.

Other scenarios include Shawn Springs straight up. Lets see............26 year old #1 wideout for a 55 year old corner. Seem about right to me.

I mean, c'mon........are they really this stupid over there? I know Matt Millen is as dumb as they come, but even he wouldnt' do this deal.

Go get him.

Id rather have Fitzgerald if he were available but this guy would work too lol.

We don't want Larry Fitzgerald. I watch him every Sunday here in Phoenix. He lacks the speed to get deep and he even has difficutly getting separation on short routes. Most of his catches seem to be made in a soft zone well short of the first down. He will just run under the coverage over the middle but he is far from being a Michael Irvin type of receiver who can consistenly run post routes or go deep on occasion. I know a lot of people want to think he is an Irvin-like receiver and he isn't. He is overrated. He posts good stats in AZ because they don't have a running game and they use him as short yardage possession receiver. Both Warner and Leinart don't really look at Boldin anymore and they eye Fitzgerald which also leads them to int's. I've seen on crucial third downs how Fitzgerald cannot get separation. The nice thing about Fitz is that he is a character guy and unselfish. He would be a good complement to TO in that regard. But Roy Williams is the better receiver in my opinion.

Not only the contract, but those same people who bashes Roy thinks he has a huge trade value. Now, how can they say he is a horrible SS and yet he can be used to make a huge trade as if he is a great player?

Good response, this isn't just in regards to SS Roy Williams but previous players on our team. They will rip on them but then think they are valuable enough as trade bait. Made no sense to me then either.

I'd be willing to give up our Cleveland pick and Carpenter, but I don't think I could let go of Ellis. He's proved this year that he still can be a dominant force on the edge, and I don't think we should give that up so easily.

On the other hand, Roy Williams has proven he can dominate opposing defenders like few other receivers can.

It's definitely a tough decision, but if he's available, we have to give it our best shot to get this guy. Can you imagine TO, Roy Williams, Terry Glenn, Witten, Barber and Romo on the same team? That'd be something nasty for sure.

I don't know why, but I would like to actually understand what you're talking about here. Not sure if you're comparing Roy Williams and Mike Williams or what.

As far as I'm concerned, I say go get the dude, but I don't know what the Lions are after. I had a feeling that with the acquisition of Calvin Johnson and still having Furrey on the roster (who would make a killer slot guy in my opinion), Roy became somewhat expendable if they could move the guy and get something back.

Unfortunately, they won't lose their minds like the Raiders and give the guy up for a 4th round pick, so it would probably take a 1st and someone. I think they actually would take OUR Roy as part of the deal and be happy, but big guys barely get moved anymore so my guess is that next season Williams will still be catching passes for the Lions.

If Roy Williams leaves Detroit, has there ever been 3 (essentially) wasted high draft picks on WRs by one team in such a short span of time?
Charles Roger, Roy Williams, Mike Williams.
How does Millen still have a job? Just incredible.

I agree - what a horrid draft track record at WR.

And that some still covet these busts is perplexing to me.

No, it's not. Joe fan wants to see him on Sportscenter highlights with the big hit. The rest of his game is the exact same.
