am i the only one who thinks this was possibly one of the worst calls in football? can you imagine finally coming out and playing hard and getting flagged for it?

that was the worst call of the year, or at least in the running for it.

fyi - the call was that newman hit an exposed receiver who could have caught the ball if not slammed by newman where roy caught the ball for a returned TD.

Worst call against Dallas this year, for sure

Maybe if Newman had gotton the receivers written permission to hit him, they would have only assesed a 5 yard penalty

now picture what this does to the D. no excuses here, sucking the 3 weeks before that negates the ability to hide behind 1 bad call...but with that we're up by 7 and the D has set the tone.

instead the refs set the tone and the D never found that type of fire again.

It was insane. The ball had just passed by when Tnew nailed him.

possibly as worse as the call earlier this year when Ellis "broke through the hold"

At the risk of sounding like a Skins fan, whining after a game about calls....

YES!!

That call was egregiously STUPID, and a momentum killer from the get-go.

if anyone is watching the 49ers/broncos game, it seems like half the refs decided to 'mail it in.'

yea, i didn't want to go excuse hunting but i couldn't for the life of me see where that call could have come from.

throw, about to catch it, hits his hands, he gets nailed (as all wr's do when trying to catch a ball) and we INT it.

this is football and it can and will get rough. that was just one of the worst calls i've seen against us all year.

It's not techincally a "call" but I'd nominate the ref taking Roy's legs out on the Burress TD reception earlier in the year.

Terrible call. Much like one they called on Woodson against Seattle back in 2002. It was the game where Emmitt broke the rushing record. Of course on that play, Woodson literally almost killed the guy.

Who wants to bet we get a penalty while playing Seattle:

"Personal foul - defense (Cowboys). Tackling the player with the ball. 25 yards - negative first down."

The Personal Foul 15 yard facemask against Sean Taylor on the blocked FG was particularly brutal. Top 5 IMO.

Yeah I was at the game when it happened.

Everyone around me was booing.

I thought that Newman grabbed facemask or something (I was at the far end zone), so I didn't really think much of it.

The way you're talking about it though, riles me up.

I thought TNew hit him right at the time the ball came. At the very worst TNew was getting ready to hit him at that time.

Their helmets touched. That's a 15 yard penalty. Sean Taylor did the same thing in the Vikings game in week 1 that led to the game winning FG. A receiver attempting to catch a ball is by rule 'defenseless', and you cannot make helmet-to-helmet (not the same thing as helmet-first) contact with a defenseless player.

It takes plays like that to get swagger and confidence. That Killed us. I agree Jerry.

Actually it looked like TNew lead with his shoulder. Anyone got a clip?

My question is...would there have been a foul if he had caught the ball? At that point he is no longer defenseless?

Total BS. It was almost like the refs had too much pride to admit they made a mistake and just pick up the flag, which is what they should have done.

If a D back can't hit a receiver when he is about to catch the ball..they might as well have flags on or play two hand touch.

That's a 10 point swing in this game....it did make a difference
