Given the fact he had 106 tackles in twelve starts last year, he was worth bringing back on a one year, incentive-laden deal.

But at this point, I agree he's not worth the repeated headaches. There's always something with this guy.

Quick correction -- McClain had 81 tackles in 2014 -- good for a 74th place tie for most tackles in the NFL last season.

if he's going to miss half the year cut him and let's bring another body in to compete for depth.

This is nonsensical. There is no 8 game PUP. There is a preseason and regular season PUP. He qualifies for the preseason PUP and can go there and come off to the roster at any time. He can go on the regular season PUP if he stays on the preseason PUP without any practice time once the season starts. He must then stay on the regular season PUP for at least 6 games.

This makes no sense at all and sounds like BS to me.

Rumor added to title.

Yea, I've never heard of an 8 game PUP.

Maybe he means IR (designated for return)

Since 2012, teams are allowed to place one player on injured reserve that they can bring back to the active roster during the season. The player is not allowed to practice until after Week 6, and can only be activated to play after Week 8. If the designation is made during the season, the player cannot practice for six weeks and cannot be activated for eight weeks. During this time, the player doesn't count against the 53-man roster limit, but he does count against the cap.

9 months ago, this guy was Going to make Sean Lee expendable. He was the best thing since Eve bit that apple. He was the motivated, misunderstood, playmaking superstar that was going to turn this defense into the best in the league.

All he actually did was play well for about 6 games and slow down the developement of other, more professional players. I see the same kind of enamorment with Hardy.

Even if that were the case, I was under the impression that the only time you use IR-DFR would be on a player who is on the active roster during training camp or the season that later suffered an injury, but you expect them to return later this season. With McClain on the PUP, I'm not sure why they would move him from there to the IR wasting their one IR-DFR for the year considering he could start the season on the PUP and save their IR-DFR for another player should that be necessary.

Maybe so, and thus the desire to develop players in-house, as opposed to free agency signings. Last year's FAs were more of a stopgap because of the lack of talent on the Defense. Just a thought

Based off his ACTIVE game bonus contract, along with his $1000000 playing time bonus...... I can see the boys pushing him on this.

I'd like to think I'm wrong.... But it seems this is the case

I'll wait until I get a tweet from someone who understands the rules that govern the NFL game.

I cannot imagine the Cowboys wasting IR-DFR on a player unnecessarily just to save a little amount of money like that especially when they're not having salary cap issues. It's one of those situations where if they did that, then later lose an important player, they would be willing to pay several times that amount to get them back on the roster the latter half of the season. To me, that would be a huge gamble so early in the pre-season especially on a player with a 4-game suspension looming.

It's something they use to simulate high altitude. Dez used it too in his off season training. I think it makes your body work harder or something like that because of the oxygen.

Right, the regular season PUP is 6 games, or up to 6 games, they can be activated at anytime IIRC.
But after the 6 weeks, they can practice with the team for 2 weeks before they need to decide to activate, or release or put on IR.
