I saw the post game interview with a doctor on ESPN and he said if it was a back contusion, it's not that serious of an injury! He did say that sitting him next week should be done, but knowing Romo, he doubts it!

If he plays next week, he needs to be able to take hard hits! I would hate to risk the future hopes of this team. Playoffs should be on our mind, and we should be preparing as best as we can to assure ourselves a spot!

This might be a stupid question, but what's the difference between an MRI and an x-ray?

MRI is used to check for more soft tissues, muscles/ligaments/tendons. X-Ray/CT scans are for checking for breaks in bones, which show a different in the amount of radiation that they block. At least I'm fairly sure that's the difference.

MRI is usually using an isotope that's used to check for more soft tissues, muscles/ligaments/tendons, things that absorb readily. X-Ray/CT scans are for checking for breaks in bones, which show a different in the amount of radiation that they block. At least I'm fairly sure that's the difference.

I think he had both. Had an MRI and then they sent him for a CT scan.

It is a little nerve wracking that there has been no information, but it could also be that Romo is just fine and they're gaming the Cardinals, withholding info until they absolutely have to give it. Garrett does not like volunteering information he doesn't have to, historically.

Jerry, on the other hand.

Probably just a matter of pain tolerance.

When did schefter tweet that romo was done? Was that the Monday after?

Hope here is this is more about keeping the Cardinals guessing than any serious issue with Romo. Remember the Skins didn't rule out RG3 until Friday.

The info lock-down indicates bad news...

Blame playcalling, Murray's fumbles/slow running, and missed tackles for Romo's condition...

*Oh, plus the ultimate decision to send him back in to lose the game...

Yeah, roughly around 4pm that Monday.

FROM LAST SEASON'S Scheffer Report.

NOTE: This is just a reminder of the timing of the injury assessment LAST season and does NOT relate to 2014:

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Tony Romo's back injury is [2013] season-ending.

We'll take "season-ending" to mean the playoffs, as well. It's a thunderbolt of bad news for the Cowboys as they gear up for Sunday's winner-take-all showdown with the Eagles, and a testament to Romo's toughness after he played through the injury against the Commanders. It's remarkable Romo was able to finish Sunday's game. It leaves Kyle Orton as the Cowboys' Week 17 starter. Owner Jerry Jones made Orton one of the league's highest-paid backups in 2012, giving him a three-year, $10.5 million deal. Orton has attempted just 15 passes since arriving in Big D. He should give the Cowboys a fighting chance, but the Eagles are now the prohibitive favorites to claim the NFC East crown. Romo finishes 2013 the owner of 3,828 yards and a 31:10 TD:INT ratio. He hasn't missed a game since 2010.

Media speculation (although stated as fact via twitter when asking Dr's "familiar with the case") is that he has blood in his urine. Conjecture is that kidney(s) are compromised and to what degree is being validated by additional testing. Medically MRI is the tool that provides the most detailed substrate view of damage on a section by section view of everything (not just soft tissue damage) It's like taking a steak and cutting it in 1/32" (or less) sections and examining each section front to back and top to bottom. A Dr. will have to chime in on what a CT scan does differently than an MRI and why it might follow an MRI as I always thought an MRI was the end all. Unless there is some kind of Xray dye injected into Romo's system that might allow a CT scan to pick-up ruptures / tears, etc. This is something I just considered.
