Romo has the merit with JJOnes and the entire organization to be treated as he wishes.
He lost his position to no misdeed or lack of ability other then injury. It's unfortunate.
Good for JJones class act. Sometimes you help your friends.
We'll be fine.
This is going back into ancient history, but when we finally chose to stick with Staubach over Morton, we didn't just release him because he'd been such a class act. We traded him to what was then an NFL Siberia, and ended up with a pick that became Randy White.

Yeah, I know there was no cap then, different era, yadda, yadda yadda. The point is, if you need to get rid of an asset, you try and maximize return. I love Tony, but he's been more than handsomely rewarded for his service to the team. If we were prioritizing the team's future over one player's wishes, we'd be doing everything we can to get a pick back in return.

You want to win, you gotta put feelings aside.

Mr. Blue Suit is reporting that *Romo* thinks he will be released instead of traded. It probably means that Romo doesn't think another team will come forward with a trade offer and will instead wait until after he is released to pick him up.

Translation....Mr. Blue Suit's source = Romo.

Mr. Blue Suit can't tell the truth, it's almost like it would make him violently ill to do so.

This could simply be the compromise to Jerry's issue here. He hates letting Romo go and Romo hates to leave but instead of trading him to someone Romo might not want to play with, Jerry allows him to pick and choose his destination.
That's fine but if we weren't going to try to get something in a trade couldn't we have had him tear up his contract and sign a new one first in exchange for releasing him?

You can bet that Romo has had discussions with Jerry and Stephen and probably knows a lot about what is likely to happen.
If Romo decided to share with Werder, so what?

Explain how the high road would be better here?

I think people are literally just grasping at straws to defend the organization here.

There's one reason to not trade Romo, well two:

1) Because you won't get anything for him.

2) You don't want to trade him now and take the cap hit now, you'd rather take it over two years and that's why a June 1 cut makes the most sense.

Any logic that involves loyalty to Romo is midguided. Jerry's obligation is to the team first, not Tony, as much as I and apparently the Jones' like Romo. There's no real long term payoff here by letting him walk if you in fact can get compensation for him.
Im trying to think how JJones thinks. The organization felt awkward about how to tell Romo he had lost his job to the better rookie.
Romo had been a trooper and gutsy player for the organization. He went down Dak came in and was brilliant and the team logically moved on from Romo
but that doesn't mean that bonds are forgottin.
Now you'll retort with the business responsibility view and that's understandable but IF Romo still wants to play and the team he wants to play with wont cough up a
draft pick ,let him walk. It's the high road and good will is always beneficial

Because you don't get compensated to get out of a bad contract, which is essentially what we're doing if we release him.

It's the worst dead money hit in franchise history... for nothing
That is just making a mountain of a mole hill........Romo's contract has been just fine

Tony Romo 19m in dead money if he retires/cut
Tom Brady has 27m in dead money if he retires/cut
Drew Brees 37m
Joe Flacco 47m
AaronRodgers 7m.......they had huge cap hits the last 5years
Big Ben 18m
Eli Manning 18m
Cam Newton 22m
Matt Ryan 10m
Russell Wilson19m

Stop acting like it is an outlier when it is not even close to the worst

then he beats us with DEN in the Super Bowl as Taco Charlton, their 1st round pick, sacks Dak before he can hit Christian McCaffrey on 4th down

Sure is. But Romo got every penny of his huge salary he had coming, no discounts for missed games or not playing.

Good for JJones class act. Sometimes you help your friends.
We'll be fine.

The NFL is a business, it's not a gaggle of "friends" "helping one another". Anybody who can't tell the difference shouldn't be in it.

Romo should be treated without any and all respect that is possible. He's earned that.

But what neither he nor any player has earned is the right to get what they want at the detriment of an entire organization, like some fans are clamoring for here.

If it comes down to it, and it's "screw Tony Romo" or "screw the Dallas Cowboys"?

Sorry, screw Tony Romo.

This team was here long before him, and it will be here long after him.

Be reasonable guys... Romo is likely to get just about everything he desires this spring. If Jerry did try and
strong arm him, Romo could just pull an Orton and hold out waiting to be released. Just like Orton, Romo
holds all the strings. Jerry loves him some Romo so no worries.

No, it is to be expected. Just another example of cap mismanagement causing another missed opportunity.
ID this is true it's because there wasn't a trade to be made.

I think there is absolutely a trade to be made and I'd be upset if it happens.

But to think someone could come to Jerry and offer a 2nd rounder and Jerry said no thanks... As your narrative suggests... Is just silliness. Don't be silly.

Nobody knows for sure what is going to happen with Romo, even Romo, Stephen and Jerry. They absolutely want to trade him, but they don't know if they will be able to. At this juncture, it's a buyer's market. If a few months pass, QB's get injured or a QB that has been disappointing gets a 4-game PED suspension, etc....then it turn's into a seller's market.

Did anybody expect the Eagles to trade away Sam Bradford with the contract that he got? Nope.

And Romo sharing that with Werder is dishonest. He doesn't need to put 'an anonymous source.' But he does because he wants to keep Romo as his source while giving this story some legs. He's just an incredibly lazy, unethical and dishonest person.

Maybe I'm wrong, but doesn't Dallas have to eat the guaranteed money whether he is traded or released?
If so, isn't it in the best interest of teams that are targeting him to trade for him due to only being on the hook for his base salary over the next 3 season ($14M in 2017) and can cut him at anytime with no ramifications? If teams wait until Tony is released, there will be a bidding war and Tony will want a 2-3 year deal with guaranteed money and a lot more than $14M a year. The team signing him will now be married to him. Conversely, if that team gave up some draft capital to acquire him in a trade, they could've had a semi-low cost "cancel anytime" contract. That's why I believe a team will trade for him.

Nobody knows what we could or could not get for Romo in a trade.
The team that gets him inherits his salary, age, and injury risk....to go with, if healthy, a difference-making QB.
So regardless of what people think, let's not pretend we for sure know anything.

Just as Romo has taken the high road through thick and thin during his entire career in Dallas (and even when not given a chance to compete anymore after last years return) Jerry will in turn take the high road with Romo. They have long and respectful relationship.

fwiw, Jerry actually does tend to take the high road in how he deals with players and he has league-wide respect among the players because of it.

Lol of course he is. If this is true, it's one person and one person only who is behind it. Somebody will sign him to a 3 year deal for 50 million and we'll look even more like clowns.

It wouldn't be a complete shock if there aren't any decent offers. Or even any offers. The guy has been hurt for the better part of two seasons now. It's nothing like Favre, who was the definition of durable.
