Taken from another forum: This is just a Rumor that i read on the DC.com message boards, but apparently according to this poster on there, he has knowledge from his cousinwho was at a practice that Isiah Stanback has been practicing as a CB and has been doing well, he was covering T.O. and had 3 INT's and a couple of pass deflections in that practice.

Maybe he is only practicing there as part of the scout team, but hey, it really isn't that crazy of an idea if you think about it, Stanback might be a fit there, he has great speed and has been a QB in college, so he has first hand knowledge of how a QB thinks, so it might be easier for him to read a QB? If he has to ability to play man to man (using his great speed, which is why he was drafted), maybe this is a good idea.

Here is the link, take it for what it's worth:

This is starting to be Woody Dantzler part 2

If true, then exactly.

I hate it when they do this w/ converted college qbs. Decide on a position for them to play and stick w/ it. This constant switching from position to position only retards their development.

You could make the argument that because he was a QB, he would have first hand knowledge of how every position on the field is played from a QB perspective. So what?

he must be knocking their socks off with his WR skills for them to experiment like this.

It wouldn't surprise me if he played some CB or S in practice -- we have Henry, Davis, and Brown all not practicing -- Newman likely isn't taking a ton of snaps in practice right now either. We do have Ball and Butler on the PS - likely Wade isn't using Roy, Hamlin, and Reeves more than he needs to in practice so that leaves Jones, Oglesby, Watkins, the PS guys, and others filling in.

I doubt that Stanback is being moved - his game is all about having the ball in his hands.

One way to look at is since you have three DBs limited in practice, you need somebody else back there to run with these guys.

Henry down, Newman limited, Brown down, Keith Davis (limited/down).

I realize Ball and Butler are on the Practice Squad, but we don't know if they've got an injury either.

Anywho, I'd like to see some confirmation one way or the other.

We are short on CBs due to injuries so he is probably being used as a CB during practices. No biggie. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Where's the BS emoticon?

How did this someone see practice? If it was the media session where they do a little streching and a couple of individual warmups, Stanback could have been messing around. At the very worst, they may have given him some emergency reps at CB just in case we had a rash of injuries with Henry already hurt and Newman gimpy.

It's ridiculous to get down on Stanback as a WR just because of this rumor.

if he is practicing at CB...then they must not think he has the hands to be a WR

That would be a viable explanation if this rumor is true at all.

Here is the post that got this silly rumor started .....

"Okay my cusin lives out in corpus christy and made the trip to see the cowboys practice on Wed. He is a big cowboys fan and has doubted the drafting of Stanback for widereciever thus the reason I was so surprised when he called me to tell me how amazing he did in practice. The thing of it is he wasn't playing WR he was playing CB and was lined up against T.O. The only thing I can think of is that they are planning on using him against another high profile WR with a style close to T.O. any ideas? hmmmm? maybe Moss in week 6? I don't know. They may just be trying to see where he would be most usefull but my cuz said that he did great against T.O. he had 3 picks knocked the ball down alot and made good tackles when T.O. did catch the ball. What do you guys think about this idea?"

I thought practices were closed? This sounds like agenda driven bullcrap to me ...... something like Edunce would post.

The only problem with that, is that this guy is practicing to BECOME a WR. If you're down on CB's, get a WR on the scout team to play CB, don't take the guy currently learning a new position and have him play yet ANOTHER position in practice, just because you're short there. This won't make him a better WR.

Reading the thread itself, this "rumor" is definitely some BS. Guy joined on the 10/4, posted his thread on 10/5. And like you pointed out, he didn't say his cuz'n was affiliated with the 'boys just that he went to practice. We all know practices are closed now, so Joe Fan can't just roll up in there now.

Later in the thread someone posted this:

Sent this question to Tim MacMahon of the Dallas morning news, and he said the following:

Media is allowed to watch only the first 30 minutes (mostly stretching), so I'm not sure there is any truth to the rumor. Could be that he was just jamming guys off the line of scrimmage. Haven't heard any discussion about making him a CB.

Thanks for reading,

Tim
So I think we can officially put this rumor to rest.

Yes, it sounds like a cousin is pulling the leg of another cousin.

Brilliant logic -- of course, playing CB doesn't take him away from WR at all. It just gets him on the field more. The report had him covering TO. You can worry when he's out there covering Miles Austin or Mike Jefferson that he's losing WR snaps.

He's a physical specimen who is rounding into playing shape -- why not let him run a bit with TO?
