I hate the term bellcow

I do too, because outside of Dallas there weren't really weren't any "Bellcows" in the NFL, at least not like what Murray did for Dallas.

Murray had 77% of the Cowboys carries
Lynch had 53% of the Seahawks carries
Foster had 47% of the Texans carries
Lacy had 56% of the Packers carries
McCoy had 65% of the Eagles carries
Bell had 68% of the Steelers carries

Thanks a lot, DFWJC. Now I'm obsessing over the thought of Lamar Miller running behind this line.

I just don't see any reason to think the Dolphins would be willing to trade him. Look at his stats and age. If he is going to be a free agent after the season then his trade value is diminished. So the Dolphins are better off running with him this year.

I would say going forward our lead back would probably be getting 50-55% of the carries. Murray last year was a real anomaly. You won't see that type of workload by a single RB in the future.

This is pretty eye-popping

Honestly, I really don't think most understand that we will probably never again run a back into the ground like we did Murray last year.

I really did feel that we had made up our mind to let him walk during the season, because there were games where we were blowing teams out and we were still running him hard.

Lamar was a name I was thinking right after the draft. Miami has never seemed to trust him for some reason. In 2013 everyone had real high hopes for him, but Miami just never committed to him giving way to many carries to lesser talented RBs. Last year they had to rely on him and he looked very good, but then they draft Ajayi. It wouldn't shock me to see he's on the block. I wouldn't give up more than a 5th since he's on his last year of his rookie deal though.

Agreed.

I would say you're right there.

No it won't happen again. And the only reason Bell had such a large % of carries was because the Steelers only had 435 carries last season (as a comparison the Cowboys had 508).

It may or may not be Miller. But if they get another back, I think we will most likely be a younger back rather than a Peterson or Johnson.

That's why a Miller/Leary trade could work.

Both are on the last years of their respective deals.

I'd consider the trade and put Miller out there for say 250 carries, pick up 1,150 yards, and let him leave via free agency so the Cowboys get another comp pick.

If Leary isn't starting he probably isn't going to get big dollars in FA, which would work against getting a comp pick out of him.

You could be right.

I'm thinking they may shoot for the one year deal with a back and then play the draft game again next April/May.

My own opinion is that there's always a back available who's good enough to get at least 4.2 YPC.

I'm not willing to trade Leary. He's extremely cheap and is still a RFA next year. If Free gets hurt or declines Collins can step in from LG to RT and Leary goes back in at LG. He's an extremely valuable player and is so cheap I wouldn't move him.

I don't think RB has to be significantly improved right now. If I can't get Miller, D. Martin or Knile Davis for a 5th, I'm more than prepared to go with what they got.

He is on the last year of his deal. They might not be interested in signing him to a long term deal, so why not try and get something for him now.

I've read that he's bulked up to around 220 now. They still question if he can hold up carrying the ball more than 20 times a game. But here, he wouldn't have to.

I'd give up Leary and Mo for him. Or Leary and a 5th.

I'm all for signing him. But I don't see the need to even give up Leary or even Mo just to get him. Just throw in a 5th rounder straight up. Shouldn't be difficult to get him here if we wanted to.
