If this is the case dont you guys think that would kill us drafting a RB in the first round? Why would you sign your pro bowl back to a huge contract than turn around and and sign a first round pick to a huge contract that'll be backing up Barber? If this is the case I think we get our CB in the first round and I think we definitely end up trading a 1st pick for a Vet WR. I wouldnt doubt if this is already set up.

Well, if he does actually sign, then I agree with you. But let's say he doesn't sign, and he still wants more money. If Jerry doesn't think he can sign Marion, than he may try to get a back in the first round. Hopefully he does sign, and we can get another back in the 2nd round to compliment Barber. I know we probably need to draft two RBs this year since we lost JJ and Tyson. So I'm wondering if we draft a small back like Chris Johnson, will we draft a bigger back later in the draft. But I really do hope we sign Barber.

If true, I honestly don't understand this move.

I love me some MBIII, but why would Jerry & Steven sign him before the draft?

Doesn't that severely cripple their negotiating power?

If they draft a highly acclaimed RB, don't they have more leverage in negotiating with Barber?

Agree -- doesn't make sense.

I totally believe Ethiostar, but maybe this is like Pacman saying the trade was a done deal... Maybe the player heard something positive from his agent and got a little overexuberant.

I hope the deal was reasonable for us if this is true. I'm starting to get a bad feeling about Jerry overpaying to keep what he sees as a Super Bowl team together.

I think this is simple a case of paying a guy who has earned his star.

Jerry is a fair guy who likes to reward his stars who work hard for him.

Its not always about the business aspects of the move ..... Jerry will take a hit in his pocketbook for a guy he thinks deserves it.

But what if everyone plays well? He can't pay everyone, no matter how much he wants to.

We haven't been a consistently good team for so long, and really not ever in the new cap world with a good young QB, that we haven't had to deal with this. But we're going to have to let some good players go, just like the Patriots have.

I hope Jerry doesn't get us in a bind where we have a couple-year window and then we're screwed if we don't win in those years.

Patriots have not won anything since they started that practice.

Time to let 2004 go.
