It appears the Texans would not only be open to trading Jadeveon Clowney, they might be the ones making the calls.

In what would be the third tag-and-trade scenario involving an edge defender this offseason, the Texans have contacted teams about Clowney, Charles Robinson of Yahoo.com reports (on Twitter).

The Texans made calls about possible Clowney trades just as the news broke of the Seahawks’ talks about dealing Frank Clark. Robinson categorizes the Texans’ situation with Clowney as similar to where the Seahawks stood with Clark. This is interesting, considering Houston does not have a quarterback contract like Russell Wilson‘s on its payroll and enters the first round of the draft with more than $41MM in cap space — second-most in the league.

Last week, Texans GM Brian Gaine expressed optimism about reaching an accord, though we haven’t heard positive news on that front. Clowney has been extension-eligible for two years now, and the sides have not been particularly close to a deal. They did not get close last year, when Clowney was tethered to a fifth-year option, and may not be near an agreement — hence the trade chatter — now that the outside linebacker is attached to a $17.1MM franchise tag.

With Clark and Lawrence now receiving $21MM-plus-AAV deals, Clowney likely is setting his bar higher. This will be an interesting situation to monitor.

I always thought either Clowney would be a bust or wouldn't live up to his potential.
Always thought he was lazy, gave half effort and chose South Carolina because he could get by with minimal effort compared to some place like Bama.

The Texans must have confidence in Watt's health for the next few years.

Houston like Tacos? I'd trade em Jones and a Taco for Clowney and a 5th.

Clowney and Tank. Get a DT and CB in draft....let's roll!
you know Frank Clark just got a 1st and a 2nd right?

Jones is equivalent to a 2nd round pick I would think and Taco well...he was a first round pick so maybe we could just use the term “first round draft pick” when saying his name. Like “we will trade you CB Byron Jones, FORMER FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICK Taco Charlton and a 5th” for Clowney. It’s all about the delivery. Maybe say “former first round draft pick Taco Charlton” like 5-8 times in the phone conversation to throw them off a little.

Houston saw what SEA got for Clark and thought hmmm...

Guess we'll see what they get for him if anything goes down, but just keep him out the East.

Or they don't want 2 high priced injury prone dlineman. Paying two guys what they will make on the dline and if both get injured, it would destroy the team

I understand teams May be hesitant to pay huge contracts.

But what’s with playoff contenders trading away high quality pass rushers? They don’t grow on trees and a first round pick certainly doesn’t guarantee finding somebody the caliber of Clowney or frank clark.

there is no way that the cowboys would even try to get clowney. the money will be to much and we already have our two starters in quinn and lawerence.
