Rumors at 20

Hood and Johnson would both be slam-dunk picks.

They fit both the normal McClay mold of "draft the best darn athlete possible, screw the risks", and what we did in the first three rounds last year, which was "draft RKGs with good tape".

And CB's a money position. And it's a position of big need.

Dallas can't screw this up, right?

Really?

Because one is a question mark with his health (Bland) and the other is a complete unknown (Revel).

If either of those guys struggle, who do you have playing outside that’s a viable starting corner?
I'd target a corner in the third round to find out where we stand with Bland and Revel this year before investing a premium pick in the position. Line and linebacker would be my first two choices, and I'd try to move around if needed to get them with those early picks.

Bland, Revel and Durant may fail, but you can't replace everybody in a single year unless you invest heavily in free agency. Cornerback would be the position I'd wait on. I'd probably wait on safety, too, unless Downs falls to 12, just because I think he's a special player. I still wouldn't take him over Styles or the early-round DEs, though.

Also would be a massive mistake to pass on Bain at 12 if he fell
As if he's a LBer......People need to start realizing.....drafting 4-3 DEs to play in the 3-4 is a mistake.

A good offensive coordinator will get him in coverage.....then what? That's the last place I want to see Bain....trying to cover some RB down the sideline in a foot race.

Nothing's more important than cornerback.

Even if there isn't a hole there. Pretend there is and address it.
I wouldn't say there isn't a hole there, only that we don't really know if there is a hole there. Bland is a couple of years removed from being an All-Pro and has had a couple of foot surgeries now. Revel received a lot of praise from the front office for being a steal before he even set foot on the field, but it took longer than expected for him to recover from injury and he didn't show much after he did. And Durant had a career year that he might not be able to duplicate.

However, I am in agreement with you that we should at least see what we have in these players to know if there is a hole before we strongly address it.

With an ideal front office, we would have strongly address our needs in free agency and we could afford to make sure or upgrade at a position like cornerback. However, we actually do have some glaring needs, so we don't have the luxury of fixing corner before we know if it's a problem.

We'll be bringing one of the outside linebackers on every play and Bain could be that rusher, coming from the wide-9 alignment, with the other OLB typically being the one to drop into coverage. He would have to drop into zone some to keep offenses off balance, but there are ways to limit his coverage there to keep him from chasing RBs down the sideline. It would probably just be on zone plays and he'd play the short zone to his side.

I might have to watch Johnson again. I didn't see what others saw on my first watch like I did hood/cisse. I might be missing something

I sure hope the cowboys plan to
Trade for an LB then.

Because waiting until the late 3rd for an Lb won’t work.
Yeah. Besides the fact that around the middle of the 3rd to the 5th round is sort of linebacker no man’s land.

I like both Hood and Johnson and both can play Zone and Man well.

If you dont get Styles, no LB is worth drafting in the first. None of them.
You seem very informed on linebackers. Would you rather have:

1 Styles

OR

2. Two (2) of Rodrigues, Hill, Golday, Trotter?

Thank you in advance, and I will listen to your response off the air.

Bain should not even be under consideration at either #12 or #20

Hood would be the best cb in the room in short order. It's not like Bland would say anything about it. He'd just grin and move to the side smh.
Hood is a future #1 CB. Him winding up a better pro than Delane wouldn't shock me. Im definitely a fan of him at 20

+1 ...this is my concern. If we punt on him, it leaves only 2 options IMO
* draft a 2nd tier (....who's unlikely can start immediately) and sign a bottom-feeding vet such as Wagner as your starter
* Pull the trigger on the Brooks trade
