These are graphic representations of rushing and receiving attempts, which ended with OR without a penalty, throughout the entire season. My goal for gathering this data was to illustrate which player was either the intentional OR unintentional designated target of each called play.

NOTE: These graphs represent all plays recorded by NFL.com in each Game Center's Play-By-Play section (example--> http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/playb...y_by_play&season=2008&week=REG1&override=true ) with the exception of any plays when:
  • the ball was never snapped due to penalty (i.e. false starts, etc.)
  • the quarterback fumbled or was sacked
These will be plays which the quarterback was successful in:
  1. releasing the ball (e.g. passing attempt) OR
  2. handing off the ball (e.g. rushing attempt) OR
  3. scrambling for positive, but not negative yardage OR
  4. throwing the ball to any player which NFL.com indicated was INTENDED for a particular receiver or running back out of the backfield
Typically, NFL.com play-by-play reports contain misprints, etc., so the information contained in the graphs will not 100% accurate, but there should be very few inaccuracies also.

Wow Barber got a lot of reps, had it been Felix or Choice the results would have been better, hate to say it though. Nice work:thumbup:

Yep, this is great work and very interesting. Wow, the Barber numbers are pretty significant considering the last half of season he was crippled and a non-factor for most part, let alone the focus of plays!

Shows how important running backs are in games though. WR's don't touch the ball nearly as much, nor are they as key in keeping QB upright.

If my memory serves me correct 64% of the offense was going through Barber. That's check downs and runs.

Guess who is still the feature back? You have two guys that are faster and more elusive in both Felix and Choice being wasted on the sidelines. Can somebody please explain to me like if I was a two year old why we are using a slow power back in place of a speed/elusive back???

I bet Barber is still getting more than 55% of the reps in this offense and that alone is killing us....
