From a post comparing Barrett Jones to Travis Frederick, on the National Football Post:

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Pick-your-Poison-Travis-Frederick-vs-Barrett-Jones.htmlhttp://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Pick-your-Poison-Travis-Frederick-vs-Barrett-Jones.html

Excerpt:

In the end, it is likely that both Jones and Frederick will become starting centers in the NFL, but I think the level of player they will become is different. Jones will be the tough, scrappy over-achiever who cannot get movement on in-line run blocks and constantly has trouble blocking the big 320+ pound DT’s, both on run blocks and in pass protection. Frederick on the other hand will never be confused with one of the most athletic centers, but he will be one of the more physically dominant ones in the league. He will get his hands on the defensive lineman and will be able to dictate the play to them. Frederick’s skill set will enable him to stop power rushers in their tracks, adjust to quick pass rush moves in a small area and constantly control his man to open holes on inside runs. In addition, in today’s NFL where so many teams run 34 defenses, Frederick will have no trouble blocking the nose tackle one on one, while Jones will struggle in that area. For these reasons, I would definitely draft Frederick before I would select Jones.

Who doesn't get excited reading that?

That's exactly what we've all wanted on this team for the longest time.

Now maybe we will run and convert more 3rd or 4th and 1. And maybe Romo will finally have a pocket to step up in.

Tony Romo HAS to be smiling.

People will yell reach, but Frederick is 10 year starter RT @Fariko_Beatdown: @ShanePHallam give me some insight on the cowboys first pick

@ShanePHallam: Travis Frederick was my #1 center, can play guard, he explodes off the snap. Huge part of Montee Ball's success, will help Dallas

The more I read about him the more it makes sense to me that he was 22 on their board.

Based on the two games I watched last night, that write up is spot on. Guy is powerful as hell. He will literally power you open a hole in the running game and I never saw any player get any push on him in pass protection.

I too watched the Michigan St, Ohio St, Stanford games and any other film I could find on him and I would totally agree with this assessment. He moves guys, every time. When he puts hands on someone, they go backwards, get turned, or often put flat on their back like roaches!

With how the draft dried up for us and knowing that we now have two 3-4 teams in the division, and knowing how Costa struggles with someone over him.....can't complain.

This was the right move, just wish we could have gotten a tad more in the trade down.

One other point to make; this guy's valuation is all over the board, from 31 (Gary Horton) down to the 90s..

http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2013...2013-draft-targets-travis-frederick?ref=yahoo

And when you like a guy with a wide spread of values and must have him, you'll inevitably get second guessed.

It's not the same as a guy whose value is consistently known to be, say, 40-50 or so.. the nearly two round spread of valuations means Dallas *had* to grab him at the high end, if they absolutely wanted him, because although 60% of the scouts had him late in the second or lower, that 40% who did not were really the players in this game.

Drafts are akin to auctions or for that matter, getting married. It only takes one, not a crowd.

It's been pointed out by others, but Prisco had him going I think 21 in his mock. Prisco was just regurgitating what GMs were telling him, I'm sure.

Two other things stood out on film to me:

* He has no issues getting to the second level (although his slow speed on pulls outside is an issue). He's very effective at scooping a defensive lineman to get to that second level.

* He's an absolute stone wall on pass blocking.

Other than the value on the pick for moving down it looks like we all good on this.

I like the pick....he fills a huge void in the interior OL....probably at RG. WalterFootball says Frederick would be a good 2nd round pick for the Boys, so did they reach? Maybe a little, but is seems everybody was reaching for OL in this draft.....look at picks 19 and 20.....much bigger reaches in my opinion. So the Boys traded down, filled their most urgent need and picked up another 3rd round pick. Good move IMO. Now they need to pick pick up a RT so they can get rid of Free.....
