Russell Wilson reaches agreement on deal with Seahawks

i

Quarterback Russell Wilson and theSeattle Seahawks have agreed to a four-year contract extension worth $87.6 million, sources confirmed to ESPN on Friday.

The terms were first reported by Sports Illustrated.

The deal puts Wilson on par with Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who is the NFL's highest-paid player with a deal worth an average of $22 million annually.

Wilson, 26, was scheduled to make $1.54 million this season, the fourth and final year of his rookie contract. If he had not agreed to the new contract, Wilson faced being tagged as the franchise player next February.

He will be 30 when the contract expires so he could get another huge payday.

Seahags between a rock and a hard place. But I agree he is WAY over paid. Glorified bus driver at this time. Not close to top tier. At best he is about 8th in the NFL and now gets paid barely behind #1?

So it's a 5/89m deal, with 4/87.5m in new money.

Gets him some security(and then some) and keeps his cap number down this year

New money is just below Rodgers, but total money is around Cutler. Seems fair.

And people still don't think Romo gave DAL a deal at 5/79 or 4/68m in new money.

We'll see. He has to earn that money first and with that contract, it will be more difficult. His best bet will be that he walks away from the Seahawk after this contract to sign with a different team as the Seahawks start to really crash.

I like Russell..I HATE that team..but he impresses me as a nice guy off the field and I think he's the right QB for that team. Not great but very good.

I hope they lose every game though.

As long as the cap keeps increasing, they'll be fine.

up till now they have been able to keep who they really want to keep. Starting next year they are going to have to start letting key pieces go to keep others. We shall see how they do.
The cap is not going to increase enough for them to get out of that now that they have paid their QB.

They will have to deal with more of this in the upcoming few years:

Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor begins holdout

Kam Chancellor is officially holding out.

NFL Media's Steve Wyche reported the Seattle Seahawks' safety was not in attendance as the team took the field for its first training camp workout on Friday.

Chancellor wants more money, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday. On Friday, the safety followed through on his holdout threat.

The three-time Pro Bowler signed a four-year extension worth $28 million in 2013. He is signed through 2017 and is scheduled to make $4.55 million in 2015.

Coach Pete Carroll said Friday he understands the reasons behind Chancellor's holdout and the team wants to get the situation worked out.

Whether you think he's a bus driver or the best QB in the league, it's a great day for the rest of the league because The Seahawks now have to pay their QB a bazillion dollars like the rest of the contenders. Paying him peanuts was a huge part of their winning formula, and we have already seen the effects of them making room for this deal.

He still only counts 7m this year.

He is supposed to count 18m next year, but they can knock that down to 9m with a pen stroke.
