SAN ANTONIO – Sam Hurd’s attorney said Friday the disgraced former NFL wide receiver likely will appeal the 15-year federal prison sentence he received from U.S. District Judge Jorge Solis for his role in trying to establish a drug trafficking ring.
“I haven’t talked to him about it yet (in depth), but the indications are he will (appeal),” San Antonio-based attorney Michael McCrum said.
Solis also ordered Hurd, a Brackenridge graduate who rose from humble beginnings to fame and fortune in the NFL, to complete five years of supervised release after he gets out of prison. According to federal sentencing guidelines, Hurd must serve 85 percent of his sentence before he can apply for early release.
Hurd was sentenced Wednesday after pleading with Solis for a 10-year sentence.
