IRVING – Although he doesn’t think it’s necessary for him to be ready for the opener, Dallas Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne said he wouldn’t object to playing in the preseason finale against Houston on Thursday night.
“I don’t think Houston is going to have their starters playing, either,” he said. “It’s up to the coaches. I don’t want to get in there and tweak something and now we’re sitting here talking about, ‘Am I going to be ready for Week 1?’ all over again.”
Claiborne was limited in practice Monday after missing the last three preseason games with a sore knee.
The Cowboys kick off the regular season Sept. 8 in a home game against the New York Giants.
“I feel way better than I felt last week or the weeks before that,” Claiborne said. “It’s just steady improvement. I don’t know what tomorrow is going to look like or my status for the game. I know I’ll be ready for Week 1.”
Jason Garrett would prefer for Claiborne to get some game snaps before the opener, but the coach said Monday he’ll won’t make a decision until he seems more the second-year pro in practice.
