SAN ANTONIO – Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Tuesday he believes Missouri pass rusher Michael Sam would be welcome by the club’s players should it draft him in May.
Sam announced last week that he is gay.
Speaking to the Dallas Morning News, Jones stressed that “someone’s preference in terms of any part of their personal life” wouldn’t threaten the team’s locker room chemistry.
“I think at the end of the day our guys want to win,” Jones said.
Sam was a popular member of the Tigers, a fact that would work in the defensive end’s favor should the Cowboys have a shot at drafting him, Jones indicated.
“It sounds like he was amazing at Missouri in terms of having great chemistry there,” Jones told the Dallas Morning News. “He’s obviously done a great job with that and I can’t imagine our players wouldn’t welcome him. I know we would. If he’s at the right time in the right place, we’d certainly look at taking him.”
