IRVING – The defense-needy Cowboys have likely spent Friday afternoon seeking a trade to move up in the second round tonight.
Dallas owns the No. 47 overall pick. Fourteen teams are slated to select ahead of the Cowboys.
That’s important because the best pass-rushing ends – a position of need after the salary cap-related release of franchise sacks leader DeMarcus Ware – likely won’t be around when Dallas is on the clock in the second round, meaning the team likely will need to trade up to have a shot at the likes of Boise State’s DeMarcus Lawrence, Missouri’s Kony Ealy and Oregon State’s Scott Crichton.
If a trade can’t be found and all those players are gone, Dallas could target Florida State defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan.
Stay tuned. The second-round starts at 6 p.m.
