The Cowboys made moves Saturday involving two safeties in advance of announcing their 53-man roster to meet the NFL’s 5 p.m. deadline.
Continuing to show great patience with Matt Johnson, Dallas placed the 2012 fourth-round draft pick on season-ending injured reserve with a foot injury sustained Aug. 4 in the preseason opener, according to the team’s website. Johnson also was placed on IR as a rookie after suffering a string of hamstring injuries.
Safety/special teams ace Danny McCray accepted a cut in pay to remain on the Dallas Cowboys roster for a fourth season, the team’s website also reported.
Terms of McCray’s new salary were not released by the Cowboys, but DallasCowboys.com reported that it’s now in the range of $700,000, down from $1.3 million.
McCray, who has been the club’s special teams captain the last two years, started 10 games last season at safety after Barry Church suffered a torn Achilles. McCray finished last season second in tackles from scrimmage behind Anthony Spencer and second in special teams tackles behind Eric Frampton.
