SAN ANTONIO – Scott Linehan took part in a meeting of the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff on Monday, signaling the club has hired the former St. Louis Rams head coach as an offensive assistant.
The Cowboys’ web site reported Linehan sat in on a meeting at Valley Ranch with coach Jason Garrett and his assistants. NFL.com reported Dallas has already hired Linehan.
It’s uncertain what Linehan’s role will be with the Cowboys, although there is speculation he could serve as passing-game coordinator and play-caller, a role held last season by Bill Callahan.
When Linehan was the Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator in 2005, he selected Garrett to coach the team’s quarterbacks. Linehan spent the past five seasons as the Detroit Lions’ offensive coordinator.
Linehan forged an 11-25 record as coach of the Rams, guiding them from 2006 until he was fired after an 0-4 start in 2008.
