SAN ANTONIO – The Cowboys on Wednesday signed Everett Dawkins, a rookie defensive tackle from Florida State, off the Vikings practice squad.
Dawkins, a seventh-round pick in 2013, fills the spot on the 53-man roster that opened Tuesday with the waiving of defensive tackle Marvin Austin because of a back injury.
The 6-foot-2, 300-pound Dawkins is set to become the 17th defensive lineman to take snaps this season.
Dawkins signed on the same day that defensive tackle Jason Hatcher missed practice with a stinger. Three others also missed practice with injuries: CB Mo Claiborne (hamstring), WR Miles Austin (hamstring) and safety J.J. Wilcox (knee).
Defensive end DeMarcus Ware returned to practice after missing the last three games with a thigh injury.
