The Cowboys filled Anthony Spencer’s spot on the 53-man roster with cornerback Chris Greenwood, who they signed from the Detroit Lions practice squad.
A fifth-round pick by the Lions in 2012, Greenwood, 24, was one of Dallas’ 30 pre-draft visits prior to the draft that year. With the addition of the Division III-Albion College alumnus, the Cowboys have fifth corners on their active roster.
“He’s a big, long, tall corner,” Garrett said of Greenwood, 6 foot 1, 193 pounds. “We felt like size is an important trait at corner and he certainly has that and athletic ability. We’ve had our eye on him for a while and were looking for an opportunity to sign a big, young corner we can develop.”
Garrett also discussed what the Cowboys liked about newly signed defensive lineman Drake Nevis, 6 foot 1, 310 pounds. A third-round pick by Indianapolis out of LSU in 2011, Nevis, 24, was cut last week by San Diego.
“He’s one of those guys that in college demonstrated a lot of explosiveness coming off the ball,” Garrett said of Nevis, who played in 14 games with the Colts the last two seasons. “We feel like playing in this scheme we can get him back to playing the way he played in college, coming off the ball, playing with good leverage and being a destructive force both in the run and pass games.”
