SAN ANTONIO – Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett expressed confidence Wednesday that Tony Romo will be able to bounce back from the two killer interceptions he threw in Sunday’s 37-36 loss to Green Bay.
“I have great faith in Tony because I’ve been around him when he’s done so many great things for us in all quarters of the game to help us win a lot of ballgames around here,” Garrett said at a news conference in Irving. “There’s a tremendous amount of evidence to that. He’s not perfect. Nobody’s perfect. I think you look at how he stacks up with a lot of other players in this league at that position and he stacks up very favorably. We’re fortunate to have him as our quarterback and excited to see him play this week.
Romo’s two interceptions in the final three minutes against the Packers allowed them to take the lead by the final score and also thwarted any chance of Dallas coming back.
According to ESPN Stats and Information, since Romo became a starter in 2006, he has tossed an NFL-worst seven interceptions when tied or up by one possession. No other quarterback has thrown more than four picks in such situations.
Romo is 13-21 in December/January, including the postseason.
