SAN ANTONIO – Former Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman and five-time Super Bowl champion Charles Haley missed out yet again on induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

According to several reports out of New York on Saturday, the Class of 2014 that will be announced Saturday night includes Derrick Brooks, Walter Jones, Andre Reed, Michael Strahan, Aeneas Williams, Ray Guy and Claude Humphrey.

Brooks and Jones are first-ballot entries. Guy, the first punter to be inducted and only the second specialist, and Humphrey are seniors nominees.

According to Hall of Fame voter Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the 46 selectors met for a record 8 hours, 59 minutes. Twenty-five of those minutes were spent debating whether Haley should be inducted, Williams reported.

It was Haley’s fifth time as a finalist. One alleged mark against him is his off-the-field troubles, which included a contentious relationship with the media, a flaw he said can be attributed to bipolar disorder.

Haley, a ferocious pass rusher who helped the Cowboys win three Super Bowls in the 1990s, made the cut down to 10. But he was eliminated in the cut down to five, along with Jerome Bettis, Kevin Greene, Marvin Harrison and Will Shields, according to Williams.

Haley is the only player who owns five Super Bowl rings. He also won two with the San Francisco 49ers.
