IRVING – In an interview with KRLD-FM, Jerry Jones raised eyebrows Tuesday morning when he said the “punch” of Cowboys offensive tackle Jermey Parnell is the strongest the club’s strength and conditioning staff has ever measured.
Parnell started at right tackle in Saturday’s win over Cincinnati. Coach Jason Garrett was more measured when talking about Parnell during Monday’s news conference, saying the 6-foot-6, 307-pound fourth-year pro “did some good things” against the Bengals and “some good things for us last year.”
“He and Doug (Free) for a lot of the last part of the season rotated (at right tackle),” Garrett said. “We did that for a reason. We thought Jermey was doing a lot of good things in practice. We gave him a chance to play in games and he responded well to that opportunity. What’s been unfortunate for him is he’s been hurt all through the offseason and the early part of camp. So, it’s good to see him back, getting some game action.
“I thought he did some good things. I’m not going to say he picked up where he left off last year, just because he hadn’t played in games. He has to knock some rust off too, but he did a lot of the positive things.”
