IRVING – In yet another move to bolster their injury ravaged defensive line, the Cowboys on Monday signed tackle Marvin Austin.
A second-round pick by the New York Giants out of North Carolina in 2011, Austin was scouted heavily by Dallas.
“He’s a good player,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. “He’s a guy we thought a lot of coming out of school. He’s one of those guys we kept our eye on.”
A chest injury prevented the 6-foot-2, 312-pound Austin from playing his rookie season. He played in eight games in 2012 before being one of the Giants’ final cuts coming out of the preseason. The Dolphins signed him on Sept. 24, but they released him Oct. 15 after he played in two games.
“We’d like to tap into some of that ability that caused him to be such a high draft pick,” Garrett said.
