News: SAEN: NFC East historically bad this season

SAN ANTONIO – The NFC East has morphed into the NFC Least in rapid fashion this season.

Through five weeks, all four teams have losing records. The division is a combined 5-14, the worst in the NFL.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, this is the first time since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970 that an entire division has been under .500 through five weeks.

The good news for the Cowboys (2-3) is that even after their two-game skid, they appear to be the best of a bad bunch. Dallas can fortify its position at the top of a stinky heap with wins over Washington (1-3) on Sunday night in Arlington and at Philadelphia (2-3) on Oct. 20.

Naturally, Jason Garrett isn’t looking beyond the task at hand.

“The focus is on Washington,” he said. “They’ll be a great challenge for us. They’re a great football team. We got our work cut out for us.”

Great football team? The truth is there is no such animal in the East.
