IRVING – Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly believes former Fighting Irish offensive lineman Zack Martin will easily adjust to the sometimes blinding media glare in Dallas after playing for the high-profile Fighting Irish.
“We have a sign in front of our door when you come into the Notre Dame locker room: ‘Avoid the noise,’ ” Kelly told Dallas’ KRLD-FM on Friday. “Don’t get caught by all the expectations – focus on yourself. Zack is already prepared for all those things, and, quite frankly, he came to Notre Dame because he enjoys that.”
Martin served as a captain at Notre Dame his last two seasons.
“He enjoys being under that scrutiny, being under the spotlight,” Kelly said. “He’s not thin-skinned. He’s somebody that’s going to enjoy playing in Dallas.”
Martin showed off that confidence Kelly spoke of when asked after the Cowboys selected him 16th overall on Thursday night if he’s ready to be remembered as the player the Cowboys selected instead of Johnny Manziel.
“That’s fine by me. I can live up to that,” Martin said without hesitation.
