CANTON, Ohio – Quarterback Tony Romo heads the Cowboys’ long list of starters who will sit out the preseason opener Sunday night against Miami.
The Cowboys play five preseason games, so coach Jason Garrett is taking a cautious approach in regard to who plays in the Hall of Fame game. It also doesn’t make any sense to play Romo behind an injury-ravaged offensive line.
According to the team’s web site, the following starters will join Romo on the sideline: Sean Lee, Bruce Carter, Miles Austin, Mo Claiborne, Will Allen, DeMarco Murray, DeMarcus Ware, Jason Witten, Dez Bryant, Jason Hatcher and Brandon Carr.
Rookie wide receiver Terrance Williams is also out after suffering a concussion in Friday’s practice in Oxnard, Calif.
The starters are expected to see time in the first quarter Friday against the Raiders in Oakland.
