DETROIT – The Cowboys signed undrafted rookie Jakar Hamilton off their practice squad Saturday to bolster depth at safety after the club declared third-round pick J.J. Wilcox (knee) out for Sunday’s game with Detroit.
Another undrafted rookie, Jeff Heath, will replace Wilcox in the starting lineup. Hamilton, formerly of South Carolina State, and veteran Danny McCray will back up Heath.
To make room for Heath, Dallas waived third-year guard David Arkin. A fourth-round pick by the Cowboys in 2011, Arkin never appeared in a regular-season game.
The Cowboys could sign Arkin to the practice squad should he clear waivers.
