He's 31, has great experience, and skill.
Would be inexpensive.
Gives Wilcox and Heath the opportunity to grow a bit more.
Would provide more depth in our secondary and a veteran presence

He's gay..... I honestly couldn't care less

yeah i mean if he's not interested in football then i guess there's no reason to even consider him here. i wasn't aware that he wasn't actively pursuing opportunities in the NFL. i thought he was being blacklisted because of his sexual orientation.

He's absolutely blacklisted due to his sexual orientation. There are teams with clear cut horrendous safety play, to include us struggling with Jeff Heath that could've used his help. He's never been bad in his career. In fact, he's mostly been very good.

Thems be the breaks, I suppose.

Google "Kerry Rhodes Blacklisted". Some photos of him and his personal assistant (aka boyfriend) will come up. Shortly thereafter he was released...and then got no phone calls for any workouts through his agent anymore.

And we know, with guys like Jeff Heath, that there were really, really poor safeties in the league (and not just on our team).

He wasn't released because of those pics. He was released because of age and salary. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000150449/article/kerry-rhodes-released-by-arizona-cardinals

Those pics came out AFTER he was released, basically fudging up his free agency.

Pro sports needs a superstar to just come out IMO. Would make it harder to blacklist talented players.

Edit - Mods not sure if my opinion here toes any lines. Feel free to delete if I overstepped anything.

Lets just try to keep it about Kerry Rhodes..

Just knowing the timeline.. He was released in March. Those pics came out in April. Thereby blowtorching his ability to get on with a team.

Because as soon as the furor would die down, the disgruntled boyfriend would release more pics.

I think he still claims he is straight and that it's a lie. But casmith is right - he may be expensive, but teams wouldn't know that if they don't even call.

Yeah, I believe he does, but nobody believes him. And no team wants the headache. He might be the only gay player out there with a legit gripe at being blacklisted. But he doesn't want to be out. He just wants to live.

At this point, I don't think he'd be expensive. He's a year older and has been out of football for a year. I think he'd get a vet min, 2-year deal, at most.

Maybe he's blacklisted, but consider this concept:

I think people that have anything unique about themselves tend to believe that everything negative that happens to them is because of that uniqueness.

I've had many situations in life when I wondered why someone was rude to me, didn't like me, didn't hire me, etc.. if not for the fact that I'm an average height, average weight, average appearance middle class white guy, I would probably conclude that it was that one unique thing about me that caused all of those experiences. I have a friend that thinks that every negative experience that he's ever had with people is because he is short.

Yep.

Ever experience when people are laughing. Doesn't the thought cross your mind that they're laughing at you?

So there's absolutely nothing unique about you, yet you get to speak on behalf of all unique people?

Yeah, that's a great way to trivialize the prejudice that people who aren't "average height, average weight, average appearance middle class white guys" experience everyday.

Kerry Rhodes is undoubtedly being blacklisted, and frankly it's disgusting. What's worse is the backlash is so bad that Rhodes can't even bring himself to admit it publicly (even after the pictures were released), so there will be no repercussions, and it isn't even a major news story.

If true- that is so sad in this day and age.
I'm not naive, but still... I thought we could, as a whole, be more enlightened than this.

The guy had talent. I would be happy to read that Hoss Jones gave his agent a call.
