Heath compares favorably to the other Safeties on this or last year's roster.

To me X's quick change of direction and Heath's long speed says keep Woods closer to the line of scrimmage while Jeff should play more deep safety.

But really, their numbers aren't that far apart... so it likely wouldn't matter that much.

Collins played much better in year two... but he didn't impress me all that much. Take that one pick6 away and his season highlights are more ho-hum.

There are snaps available for a 3rd and possibly 4th Safety.

Last season Wilcox and Heath played significant snaps despite the starters Church/Jones not missing many snaps.

They played 6 DBs in a couple of formations:
4-1-6
3-2-6

I think there were even some snaps where 4 Safeties were on the field (Jones, Church, Wilcox and Heath). With Jones ability to play CB they can mix things up.

Yeah they liked to have DB's on the field that could also tackle. Woods and Awuzie both fit that bill nicely.... even though I think Cidobe is going to be a corner.

Instead of Jones, Church, Heath and JJ... it will likely, IMO, be Jones, Heath, Woods and Awuzie. The tackling will be nearly as good and the coverage should be far, far superior.

Plus, two of them (Heath and Woods) both are guys that tend to find the ball and get turnovers.

The Cowboys plan is looking really smart this offseason.

Hey, waiting for training camp to start in just under three weeks, and dang if a great conversation break out. Thanks...and the speed in the entire secondary has been improved.

I like it that both Scandrick and Brown, both, had been timed at 4.3's...

I think Awuzie will get practice time at both CB and Safety because they will likely want him to be the 6th DB if he is not immediately a starting CB. That 6th DB spot is ideally a CB/Safety hybrid which gives the defense a lot more flexibility. Woods fits in that mold also because he played a lot of snaps in man coverage against slot WRs.

The Cowboys defense had many limitations that the coaches had to scheme around last year. Church had very limited range. For a CB, Carr had limited range. Scandrick had nagging injury issues that caused him to have issues tacking. Claiborne was better than in the past but was always mentally limited. Hitchens was good against the run but has limited range in coverage. Brown was a rookie.

Byron Jones covered up for a lot of the other players limitations despite it being his first year as the starting FS.

You can cover up for 1 player but when multiple players have limitations, it makes the coaches job very difficult.

Looks like Woods early speed and change of direction are superior to Heath's, while Heath's long speed is better.

I think we'll see both Heath and Woods playing deep with Jones and Awuzie as dime backers closer to line of scrimmage due to their better ability in man coverage. Plus Awuzie is a terror coming off the edge as pass rusher.

Yes, Woods has better agility numbers; although, Heath had a much better Vert and weighed 12 more pounds.

Oddly, Barry Church had a better 3-cone than anyone on the list.
Athletics are great, l get that. The real question should be...are they FOOTBALL players. Heath, for example, may not be a great athlete..,but he does seem to be a Football player. Thats important.

I don't really care about this stat stuff. I want to see how they do in training camp. You know they got their work cut out for them going against our top notch offense. The receiving corps ought to be hunger to eat up the lunch of all these rookies guarding them.

Yes, a lot goes into playing Safety at the NFL level.

Quick decisions and anticipation make a player faster. No amount of athletic ability can make up for a lack of those attributes, especially at Safety.

Sean Lee vs Brice Carter is a good example of football player vs athlete. Many players and coaches said Carter was the best overall athlete on the team when he was here being stronger, faster, quicker and jumping higher than any LB and most other players. Despite all of that, Lee is obviously the better player.
