I looked at the top 3 safety prospects over the weekend and came away very impressed as they all seem to fit what we need, that chess piece type of safety prospect in the mold of Brain Branch, one who can effectively play multiple positions. Here are the three I looked at:

Downs OSU, Ramsey USC, Thienman Oregon

I do feel Downs slides outside the top 10, where the other 2 could come over in that 25-40 range. You add a veteran fa FS to go along with one of these prospects and the position has been solidified for the future.

Im not counting on Downs being available. Even being a S I think he goes top 10. Ramsey and Thieneman are both versatile guys that can play both spots as well as slot. Just not on Downs level, but both are 1st round caliber guys

Really like those other two that good be options at our GB selection.

The only safety I'm taking in the first round is Downs and that's only if Reese is off the board. Unfortunately every year the draft target I want flies up the draft board. Both those players will be gone.

I'm with you on this, however if Arvell Reese slides to us I'm going crazy. And one of the two other safeties we can nab with the second pic.

If the safety warrants the pick, you take him. That green bay selection should be in that 25 range where safeties/off the ball linebackers usually start to come off the board.

I don’t think that Downs slides. He is the best safety prospect in a long time. Some team is going to think he has Ed Reed-potential.

The next highest rated safety is projected to go in the middle of the 2nd round. Maybe a little higher. There will be CBs and LBs there in the mid 20s that would be worth taking.

It is way too early to project these players, plenty will rise, others will fall.

I don’t place a ton of value on safety early in R1. If we were picking in the back of the first round, sure.

Downs may be nice but I don’t think safety is a transformative position.

I remember Charlie Waters and Cliff Harris and Woody
and even James washington who won us in a lot of ways our last SB
Those that do not think Free Safety is so important need to check other SB winners
and notice how many of them had a top FS

Way things are looking it could be in mid to late teens.

Still a ton of football to be played, let’s hope those picks continue to rise
still 8 games to go so many things can change; hot teams can cool off and cold teams warm up
Sadly, as long as Everflop is DC I doubt we can get much better there no matter what. We are NOT as bad as we have been playing; we are NOT that untalented. Its coaching and not just him either.
