Saints OG Tim Lelito Turns Down Offer From Cowboys

His only offer coming from the Dallas Cowboys. However, they saw him as a reserve. Meanwhile, Lelito saw the considerable depth the Cowboys had accumulated along the offensive line. Those were just a few of the many reasons he found it easy to say no.

"You have to weigh your options and it’s a gamble," he said. "So you can go somewhere else and be a backup for a couple years with less money or you can try to go into a one-year tender and do the best you can and hopefully come out with a little better contract after it."

Can't say that I am surprised or disappointed for that matter. I wasn't particularly impressed with Lelito in the times I watched him play in New Orleans.

How do you know if you don't try is what they used to say in my day.
So hows does he know that he's not better than a starter or even a
back up if he doesn't try? instead he took the defeatist attitude and
said depth full other excuses check and is walking away from a
golden opportunity that may not come his way ever again certainly
not the way to go I'd rethink this before it's gone for good

I say good for him unless no one picks him up and his NFL window closes. He should know that if you spend two years as a backup OL in Dallas, Jacksonville are required to sign you. I think it's part of the London games deal.

Makes me wonder if Dallas has been offered a decent pick for Leary.

If someone offers a 4th, I think you have to take it.

Did I get off the crazy train a few stops after my exit? We have Leary and Looney as backups for the interior OL (Looney as #2 center). Why are we looking to add this scrub?

They may have offered Lelito before approaching Looney.

Yeah Im wondering.....i would think we currently have enough interior OL depth unless Leary is definitely being traded to the highest bidder.

I suggested that above.

If I'm another team and I could get an above average starting NFL guard for a 4th, I do it. I realize his knee issue and he will need to be paid after this season, but Leary can be, and has been a quality starting left guard. It makes sense to both us and another team and a deal that should happen.

Leary being moved is a distinct possibility. As a matter of fact, I'd say it is very probable. He can only play G thus won't be active on game day unless he is starting for an injured Martin or Collins.

The front office is likely trying to line up enough proven players in order to cover their bases once Leary is moved. Better to have players who have started in the League and are still young than to be forced to use a premium pick for a guy that can play right away but won't be a starter.

Don't blame him for looking elsewhere.

Leary should be on the roster come the season opener. You don't dump quality depth especially along the lines.

You never know where injuries are going to effect you. If something happens to Martin and he misses time, I rather have Leary there to replace him rather than a below average player next to Doug free. You could take the strength of your team and turn it into a question mark very quickly.
