Saints released K John Carney.
Carney's departure was a fait accompli after he was replaced by Hartley three weeks ago. The Saints were going to use two roster spots on kickers during the playoffs, and Hartley has been the more reliable option. Carney could draw interest in Dallas if Shaun Shuisham falters.

Terrible timing. Do you think Dallas should sign him anyway incase Suisham falters?

I think Dallas should sign him BEFORE Suisham falters. I'd cut Suisham for Carney right now.

Really? Do you think it's a possibility?

I would have much preferred Carney. Oh well. Really bad timing.

:laugh2:What would that do to Suisham's confidence if we release him tomorrow for Carney

We certainly can't fault for the Saints organization for lacking intelligence. This move was crafty, even insidious in its execution. They deliberately waited for the Cowboys to sign a kicker before releasing one who has been reliable throughout his distinguished career.

Could you contact the people you know in the organization and make this happen, Hos?
I have no pull with them, but I am going to drop the hint. I won't be surprised at all if Jerry makes a call to look at him.

Me either. He's a proven vet and Joe D. has coached him before in Jacksonville I believe?

I'm inclined to see what Suish can do. Is Carney likely to be picked up by some other team before next Monday? Packers maybe?

Carney was the first guy I thought of when we started kicking around the idea of bring in competition for Folk. I knew he had lost the job in New Orleans, but wasn't sure if he'd been cut yet or not. I'd also cut Suisham right now. Carney may not have a strong leg anymore, but I think he would be more reliable inside 40.

Why was he replaced?

he was injured, missed some time and the kid who replaced him was doing a great job, and has a much stronger leg.

I doubt that had anything to do with it whatsoever. Carney doesnt have to clear waivers, if the Cowboys want him they can simply cut Suisham and sign Carney immediately.

They probably cut him so he could catch on with another team, if he's healthy enough to kick. He's 45yrs old, so I doubt there's going to be alot of demand for him.

I doubt it.

I thnik they'll wait and see what Suisham can do first too.

And its possible that Carney might not even be healthy enough to kick.
