The cap is not a myth anyone who says it is is blatantly lying. It is however as flexible as a contortionist.

One of the best things on this board is the banter, the negative sillies and forever hopefuls. We all have who we want the Cowboys to sign and draft and very rarely are we right. Since McClay and Stephen Jones, there has been a method to how they evaluate players and how much they will spend in free agency. Like it or not, it isn't going away anytime soon.

Each year we all believe it is going to change (including myself) and yet it doesn't. For the Cowboys, it is about bargains. Even with Earl Thomas I do believe we were willing to sign him but not for more than the number they decide on whether that was $10 million a year or whatever and once it went above that they declined. Probably going to be that way with any free agent we go after.

With McClay, his evaluations are on players based on talent, fit to the team's scheme, their football sense, what kind of person they are and metrics such as cone drill. Guys we might believe are the best at their position probably will not match up as well with McClay evaluation. And some guys we might see as 4th round or later guys, he could easily have higher or lower.

Fans will always have their opinions and rightly so, but the FO and coaching staff could really care less of what we think. They are doing what they deem best (and in some cases what Jerry wants although not as much lately) and frankly regardless of anything it seems to be working but like most things, if you don't care for it, then we can always root for another team. For me, been a fan since 1960, though thick and thin, so guess I will praise and rant as things go but I will keep rooting for them.

That is why I am still furious about losing ET...……..we could have easily afforded him AND signed everybody else with just a couple of moves.

My interest in this team is quickly fading. I can tolerate trying to win and just not being able to, but to not even try is indefensible.

Yep, much appreciation for his work.

The couple of idiots that keep calling him out are just homers that dont want to accept the fact that this FO is just wasting cap room.

With all due respect, what they are doing is NOT WORKING!

2 Wildcard wins during Jason Garrett's tenure of almost a decade as head coach.

If that is what you call "it seems to be working"...……………..yikes

    I know

And to give them credit for straightening out the cap is ludicrous

The cap has gone up 70m in the last 6 years and DAL just waived Romo and Dez, clearing 51m in cap space

DEN spent big and won the SB
SEA spent big and won the SB and lost another by a yard
NE spends big on its secondary and DL and wins SBs
PHI spent big and won the SB
LAR spent big and went to the SB

DAL spent nothing and won a Divisional round game

2 playoff wins in 5 years is not anything to write home about.

We haven't had multiple playoff wins in a postseason in 24 years

It's understandable why people are frustrated that the FO is not willing to take a shot at accelerating "the process"

Exactly. 2 playoff wins in 5 years is a rough stretch for some franchises.

There's even alot to be excited about for the future with the young talent we've amassed

So I can see both sides of the argument, but there is clearly a window here to take a shot at a SuperBowl by adding pieces and retain the young guys.

No one is asking for a huge spending spree

Just a FS or DT or WR

I was shocked when I looked at cap space for 2020 league year on overthecap.com Guess what team has the most at 124 million?

How can you NOT know how space we have? Its updated at 22-25 million. If they are trying to sign Dak, that should be nearly gone depending on how they structure it.

And Im really not interested in hearing about the dumb things you think they could do to manufacture cap space. Until they actually do it, there is nothing to talk about.

There seems like several posters that are more then happy to talk to you about restructuring to manufacture cap space. Im not one of them. Its a stupid way to manage the cap unless you are going for it all on a last hurrah. This team is young and would be stupid to re-employ that technique.

Sure, they could do all that, but it would be stupid. And like you said, they aren't going to do it. They need to get all these great young guys signed first and then worry about someone else. Byron Jones coming up, Jaylon Smith coming up.

It is flexible. It alway allows for dumb or desperate owners to mortgage the future for the present if that's what they want to do.

I for one, am very happy that the Cowboys rarely do this anymore.

A wildcard win on average every 4 seasons is not evidence of the process working under Garrett.

Has nothing to do with liking Garrett or not, it has to do with results.

There is no debate that Garrett has not had the success other coaches that have been tenured as long as him have had, even my friend Idgit agrees with that statement. Where he and I disagree is that Idgit attributes that to organizational dysfunction and not Garrett himself while I see both as the problems.

Regardless, for whatever reason, we both agree that Garrett has had limited success compared to his peers of similar tenure. So you have one of Garrett's biggest supporters and one of his biggest critics both agreeing the results have been poor, comparatively, but differing on why. Has nothing to do with liking Garrett or not.
